Letter to Ben.[jamin] W. Austin, Honorary Secretary of the Trinity Historical Society, Dallas, accepting a non-resident membership, 1887 April 12; and letter to an unidentified recipient (evidently a librarian at Cornell University), 1892 May 4, conveying that the local (Berlin) historical society will be glad send a whole set of its annual reports to him in Ithaca. Gneist also compliments his correspondent on his institution's respected ex-president (A.D. White had retired in 1885) and its thriving university. Also, an autograph dated 1883 July 23, on letterhead of the Reichstag. Above the autograph are mounted three seals corresponding to positions Gneist presumably held as member, secretary, and treasurer of the German house of representatives; and a newspaper clipping (circa 1890) summarizing his career.
