Les peintures flamande et hollandaise ont toujours recueilli l'admiration du public, tant le travail de ces artistes du Nord est précis, délicat et mesuré et que s'y illustrent magistralement tous les grands genres de la peinture - portraits, paysages, natures mortes ou scènes de genre. Le fonds nordique de Châteauroux, constitué au hasard des acquisitions et dons depuis la création du musée en 1863, compte plus d'une soixantaine de pièces qui s'échelonnent du XVIe au XIXe siècle, toutes reproduites ici, parfois étonnantes, souvent rares, de la main de grands maîtres tels Thomas de Keyser, Frans Francken II et Hendrick van Vliet, et d'autres souvent peu représentes dans les musées français, comme Werner van der Valckert, Andreas Schelfhout ou Simon Denis. Fruit d'une longue expertise et d'une vaste campagne de restauration, cet ouvrage est non seulement un outil précieux pour le chercheur mais aussi un très beau livre pour les amateurs.

Présentation de la collection nordique du musée, composée d'un ensemble de 200 peintures, dont une cinquantaine de tableaux datant des XVe et XVIe siècles, et une centaine d'autres du siècle d'or hollandais, ainsi que des peintres flamands, dont Rubens, Jordaens, Van Dyck, etc. Constituée essentiellement par W. Bode autour de 1890, elle fut complétée par H. Haug entre 1945 et 1963.

Michiel Van Musscher (1645-1705)
The exhibition on Michiel van Musscher does not only display his more famous paintings from Dutch collections and the museum itself, but also a significant number of paintings from foreign museums and national and international private collections, which are normally not accessible to the public.
