Appassionato di filosofie orientali, nel 1975 si iscrive a una scuola di hata yoga, a Milano conosce il maestro di arti marziali Angelo Taizen Abbruzzo, da lui apprende i massaggi shiatsu, lo yoga e za-zen. Si iscrive alla Self Realization Fellowship, di Paramahansa Yogananda e viene iniziato al Krya Yoga. Nel 1979 sotto consiglio del maestro per quattro anni insegna yoga in due città del nord Italia. Nell'agosto dello stesso anno conosce Fausto Taiten Guareschi allievo di Taisen Deshimaru Roshi monaco buddista della scuola soto zen con sede centrale in Francia.
