Diese Studie zur badischen Amtsstadt Emmendingen rekonstruiert auf breiter Quellengrundlage gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen, okonomische Aktivitaten, materielle Kultur, Lebenslaufe und familiare Konflikte in einer 'typischen' sudwestdeutschen Kleinstadt des 18. Jahrhunderts. Michaela Schmolz-Haberlein zeigt, dass diese Kleinstadtgesellschaft keineswegs statisch war, sondern eine betrachtliche demographische und wirtschaftliche Dynamik aufwies sowie von geographischer und sozialer Mobilitat gepragt war. Ausserdem lebte die lutherische Bevolkerungsmehrheit hier mit Angehorigen unterschiedlicher konfessioneller und religioser Minderheiten - Katholiken, Reformierten, Taufern, Juden - auf engem Raum zusammen.
