The Science Council of British Columbia was established in 1978 to foster economic development and enhance the quality of life in the province through innovative applications of science and technology. This document provides a brief overview of the Council's programs in the areas of economic development, education and human resource development, public policy, innovative research and development, awareness of science and technology and their link to quality of life, and new opportunities. For each program, information is given on its purpose, industry component, collaborative component, criteria, value, eligible costs, the review process, budget for 1994/95, and awards made in 1993/94.

Report of one of a series of committees established by the Science Council of British Columbia in September 1987 to identify opportunities for improving the application of science and technology to the economy of the province. This report presents the findings of the Committee on economic development in the province from 1988-2000 by the application of science and technology to the agriculture and food sector. Details are given on the significance of agriculture and food production, processing and marketing; existing R & D resources; needs of this sector for the products of science and technology; evaluation of present R & D capacity to meet needs; opportunities for Science Council action; industry involvement; and financing required. Recommendations are included.
