This colloquium addressed matters of such importance as the heritage of Mexico's railways, mines and other industrial architecture, which constitute important testimonies of historical moments and unique cultural evidence. In September of 2005 a group academics, civil organizations and federal, state and municipal government representatives were summoned with the purpose of analyzing the legislature, experiences and strategies developed for the protection and conservation of the cultural patrimony of Mexico. The meeting was held in the city of Morelia (State of Michoacn) where most of the conservation and protection efforts of viceregal architecture specialist Manuel González Galván took place, the reason which is why this colloquium honored his legacy. "After reading this memoirs of this colloquium, it is evident the need to adapt a legislation and normativity to undertake preventive measures with clear and homogeneous criteria. Each time it becomes more necessary to promote for the protection, conservation, restoration and rehabilitation of the national patrimony, expressed in sites, monuments and properties of high historic and artistic value" (Our translation) --P. 9.
