Extremal Problems in Interpolation Theory, Whitney-Besicovitch Coverings, and Singular Integrals

In this book we suggest a unified method of constructing near-minimizers for certain important functionals arising in approximation, harmonic analysis and ill-posed problems and most widely used in interpolation theory. The constructions are based on far-reaching refinements of the classical Calderón–Zygmund decomposition. These new Calderón–Zygmund decompositions in turn are produced with the help of new covering theorems that combine many remarkable features of classical results established by Besicovitch, Whitney and Wiener. In many cases the minimizers constructed in the book are stable (i.e., remain near-minimizers) under the action of Calderón–Zygmund singular integral operato...

Distributed Computer and Communication Networks

This book constitutes revised selected papers from the 24th International Conference on Distributed and Computer and Communication Networks, DCCN 2021, held in Moscow, Russia, in September 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference was held online. The 31 full papers along with the 4 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 151 submissions. The papers are organized in the following topical sections: computer and communication networks; analytical modeling of distributed systems, and distributed systems applications.

Written in honor of Victor Havin (1933–2015), this volume presents a collection of surveys and original papers on harmonic and complex analysis, function spaces and related topics, authored by internationally recognized experts in the fields. It also features an illustrated scientific biography of Victor Havin, one of the leading analysts of the second half of the 20th century and founder of the Saint Petersburg Analysis Seminar. A complete list of his publications, as well as his public speech "Mathematics as a source of certainty and uncertainty", presented at the Doctor Honoris Causa ceremony at Linköping University, are also included.

Functions of Bounded Variation and Their Fourier Transforms

Functions of bounded variation represent an important class of functions. Studying their Fourier transforms is a valuable means of revealing their analytic properties. Moreover, it brings to light new interrelations between these functions and the real Hardy space and, correspondingly, between the Fourier transform and the Hilbert transform. This book is divided into two major parts, the first of which addresses several aspects of the behavior of the Fourier transform of a function of bounded variation in dimension one. In turn, the second part examines the Fourier transforms of multivariate functions with bounded Hardy variation. The results obtained are subsequently applicable to problems in approximation theory, summability of the Fourier series and integrability of trigonometric series.

Topology, Geometry, Integrable Systems, and Mathematical Physics

Articles in this collection are devoted to modern problems of topology, geometry, mathematical physics, and integrable systems, and they are based on talks given at the famous Novikov's seminar at the Steklov Institute of Mathematics in Moscow in 2012-2014. The articles cover many aspects of seemingly unrelated areas of modern mathematics and mathematical physics; they reflect the main scientific interests of the organizer of the seminar, Sergey Petrovich Novikov. The volume is suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in the corresponding areas of mathematics and physics.
