The Bible tells us Jesus is for every tribe, language, people and nation – so why are all the saints in our stained-glass windows white? An oppressive bias has taken hold of the storytelling of the Church. Many are surprised to discover that St. Augustine was from present day Algeria, and even that most British of saints, George, was an immigrant with a Turkish father and a Palestinian mother. Every Tribe celebrates the true diversity of the saints, inspiring the church to become what it is meant to be: the rainbow people of God serving the diverse needs of a diverse world.

Has the Church lost sight of her original vocation of living out her mission by serving the world? There is a prevailing ecclesiology of fatalism which suggests that it has, and that there is nothing to do be done about. This book argues however, that the church still has a role in bearing witness fruitfully and creatively even within a context of crisis. Leading thinkers offer theoretical, contextual and practical responses to encourage a renewed love for the church and renewed energy to bear witness appropriately and creatively. Chapters include: Richard Bauckham – on New Testament perspectives on a church in crisis Alister McGrath – challenging the narrative of decline Rev Dr Carlton Turner – on BAME Presence and the Witness of Diversity and Inclusion Dr Susie Snyder – on attending to those on the margins

From Grace to Glory. . .

This book chronicles a life long journey of stunning and tragic events. It took some five plus years of a "backward glance" to describe that journey. It begins within the doors of a small, seemingly insignificant church on the south side of Chicago where "ordinary people" did extraordinary things; a little assembly of believers gathered together in the Lord's name. The church had been founded by an icon, a giant in the Christian community named B. M. Nottage, who started, along with his brothers, several assemblies in Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, and other cities. This book, "From Grace to Glory", gives a vivid picture of the marvelous grace of God and his unbounded, unlimited mercy through ...

The Metaphysics of Historical Jesus Research

In this book Rowlands interrogates the theological and philosophical foundations of the 'Quest' for the historical Jesus, from Reimarus to the present day, culminating in a call for greater metaphysical transparency and diversity in the discipline. This multidisciplinary approach to historical Jesus research, drawing on historiography, sociology, philosophy, and theology, makes a significant and original contribution to the field. Part I outlines the implicit role of metaphysical presuppositions in historical methodology by examining the concept of an historiographical worldview. Part II provides an overview of the 'Quest' for the historical Jesus, demonstrating that the disparate historiographical worldviews operative in the 'Quest' evidence a particular shared characteristic, in that they might accurately be described as ‘secular.’ Rowlands’ study concludes with a call for a greater plurality and openness regarding the philosophical and theological presuppositions at work in historical Jesus research. The Metaphysics of Historical Jesus Research is of interest to students and scholars working on New Testament studies and historical Jesus research.

'Profound, learned, informed, committed, invested and hope-filled . . . a book to renew and revive us.' ARCHBISHOP JUSTIN WELBY In Living His Story (2020), Hannah Steele wrote 'with an infectious understanding of her subject' (Mark Oakley, Church Times). Now, in Living His Story Together, she turns her attention to mission and evangelism that is not only for individuals but for the whole local church. Offering an inspiring mandate for the church to see itself as a missionary community, Hannah considers the practical outworkings of that identity through engaging with scripture and current theological thinking, and sharing real-life stories from churches on the front line. Living His Story Tog...

Becoming Starlight

Revised and Updated The Shared Death Experience (SDE). Most people know of the Near Death Experience (NDE), but very few have heard of the SDE. The SDE is similar to the NDE except that it occurs not to the person who is dying, but to a loved one who is physically well. That person could be sitting right next to their loved one, sitting across the room, or even across the globe unaware of the impending death of someone they love. Location or activity level is of no consequence to the SDE. That person is "invited along" to witness the aftermath of physical death. The invitation extended has no RSVP--the person accompanying the dying individual can neither accept nor refuse--they are just "tak...

'Wonderful' JUSTIN WELBY Tarry here and watch with me . . . (Matt 26.38, KJV) Tarrying is a Black Christian spiritual practice in which believers actively wait to experience the manifestation of God's presence. It answers yes to the question Jesus once asked his disciples: will you tarry here and watch with me? Whether in the vibrancy of music and singing, or in the hushed silence of the congregation, people of all ages anticipate an encounter with God that will transform what they know, feel and experience day to day. This book makes the wisdom of Black spiritualities and faith available for all people. It focuses on seven themes: darkness as a place of encounter with the divine; the unity ...
