Social Accounting and Public Management
Social accounting as a discipline has challenged the methodology and focus of the larger field of accounting over the last 50 years. More recently it has taken on greater significance for other subjects as well, addressing issues for public policy and management more broadly. These include the issues of the nature of accountability in the contemporary plural state, environmental and societal sustainability, the ethical management and governance of public services and resources, and the creation and sustenance of social capital as an essential element of the modern plural state. Social Accounting and Public Management brings together for the first time researchers from a range of disciplines including accounting, political science, management, sociology and policy studies to discuss and develop our knowledge and theory of the nature of ‘accountability’ in contemporary global society and the challenges it may pose for public policy and management. This book addresses this nexus of all of these issues and disciplines, and through this, makes a contribution to the development of the disciplines of both social accounting and public policy and management.
Empirical studies in translation and discourse
The present volume seeks to contribute some studies to the subfield of Empirical Translation Studies and thus aid in extending its reach within the field of translation studies and thus in making our discipline more rigorous and fostering a reproducible research culture. The Translation in Transition conference series, across its editions in Copenhagen (2013), Germersheim (2015) and Ghent (2017), has been a major meeting point for scholars working with these aims in mind, and the conference in Barcelona (2019) has continued this tradition of expanding the sub-field of empirical translation studies to other paradigms within translation studies. This book is a collection of selected papers presented at that fourth Translation in Transition conference, held at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona on 19–20 September 2019.
Water Management in New Zealand's Canterbury Region
The book is designed to achieve two major purposes. The first is to describe the developments in water management policy in the Canterbury Region of New Zealand. The strategic approach, the collaborative engagement, and, the nested adaptive systems approach represent a paradigm shift in water management in New Zealand. The second is to delineate the sustainability framework that underpins the Canterbury approach. The framework is based on the concept of developing sustainability strategies to address critical failure pathways. While the focus of the book is on Canterbury, comparative applications of the framework to issues in other parts of New Zealand and international issues are proposed. The book can be used in at least two ways. The first is the application of a sustainability framework to the management of water in Canterbury region. The second is the exposition of a sustainability framework that can be applied to the management of water in a region with the application to Canterbury as an illustrative case study.
