A 1964 analysis of the decline in Britain's share of world trade, considering the impact of the 'stop-go' economic policies of the 1950s
John Wells (born 1907) was for many years a central figure in the group of St. Ives artists. Through his close friendship with Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth, Naum Gabo, Peter Lanyon, and others, he played a key role in establishing the town as a leading center for modern art during the postwar years. This publication -- the first to be devoted to the life and career of John Wells -- presents a long-overdue study of 48 of Wells's most important works, confirming his significance as a major figure of British Constructivism.
