In 2020, the Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett celebrates its 300th anniversary. Founded in 1720 by Augustus the Strong as a museum specializing in works on paper, the collection ? now with over half a million works, from the Middle Ages to the present day ? has always acquired contemporary art alongside recognised masterpieces. 00The collection ? which includes exceptional works by Jan van Eyck, Dürer, Verrocchio, Grünewald, Cranach, Holbein, Rembrandt, Caspar David Friedrich, Ludwig Richter, Toulouse Lautrec, Mondrian, Hermann Glöckner, Gerhard Altenbourg, A.R. Käthe Kollwitz in Dresden
The Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett (Museum of Prints, Drawings and Photographs of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden) has particularly important and unique holdings of the work of the German graphic artist Käthe Kollwitz (1867?1945). Das Kupferstich-Kabinett Dresden
Das Dresdener Kupferstich-Kabinett, eine der ältesten derartigen Sammlungen der Welt, bewahrt Zeichnungen, druckgraphische Blätter und Fotografien aus über acht Jahrhunderten. Aus diesem Bestand mit seinen weit über 500 000 Arbeiten von mehr als 20 000 Künstlern präsentiert der vorliegende Band etwa 120 Meisterwerke von Dürer, van Eyck, Rembrandt bis hin zu Munch, Giacometti und Dix. Auch jüngst erworbene zeitgenössische Werke von Künstlern wie Wolfgang Tillmans und Thomas Hoepker werden in Farbabbildungen vorgestellt. Alle besprochenen Werke sind chronologisch aufgeführt, so dass die Entwicklung der graphischen und fotografischen Künste nachvollzogen werden kann. Zugleich werden die unterschiedlichen Funktionen und Techniken von Arbeiten auf Papier ebenso wie einige Schwerpunkte der Sammlung exemplarisch sichtbar.
