The Traveler's Guide to Damanhur

Ecotourism, spa retreats, and spiritual travel are more popular than ever, catering to increasing numbers of travelers who want to learn and grow while vacationing. Damanhur, Italy’s famous center for art, culture, peace studies, and community building, is poised to become a major destination for such tourists. The Traveler’s Guide to Damanhur is divided into three parts, each focusing on a different aspect of visiting Damanhur and its renowned Temples of Humankind. Part one covers practical information on Damanhur and the essentials of traveling in the surrounding Piedmont region of Italy, including details on transportation, lodgings, places to visit, restaurants and wineries, shopping; classes, workshops, festivals, and other public events; and recommended spa treatments and massage therapists. In part two, the history of the Damanhurian community is given a fun treatment in a comic book insert that puts it in a mythic context, linked to Earth and the Galaxy.

I We Falco

Falco Tarassaco (Oberto Airaudi, 1950-2023 founder of Damanhur) is a philosopher, psychic, spiritual guide, researcher in various fields straddling science, art, and metaphysics. Above all, he is a man who is able to excite and engage others, proposing to them projects through which to create an innovative reality every day, based on a sense of community, a sense of the sacred, respect for human beings and for every form of life, visible and invisible, around us. This book explainsaa Falco Tarassaco through the stories of seventeen students: from those who shared his entire journey with him to those who did not know him personally, having embraced his philosophy after his death, to those who met him through a video or a book.

The Poetry of my Consciousness

At sixteen, the young Oberto, who in his adulthood with the name of Falco Tarassaco would have become the founder of Damanhur, collected his poems in a book and soon after published a short story in the form of letters. There was no trace then of what would have happened a few years later, of his consciousness awakening, or of his social, artistic and spiritual adventure in Damanhur... Or maybe there was! How much of Falco Tarassaco, as an enlightened spiritual guide, is contained in these writings? How many fine threads link the thoughts of young Oberto to the philosophy developed by Falco in his forty years of spiritual teachings? Let’s find these signs together: the meditative reflections which lead us to the themes that Damanhur will later develop. Let’s try to give meanings to the images, the words and the metaphors that seems to be just some poetical exercises. Who knows, out of them we could draw some valuable suggestions for ourselves and, maybe, following his example we could learn our first steps towards spiritual freedom.

Young People Growing Up

How do Damanhurian educate their children? According to what values? What does it mean to guide them towards their future choices? This is the story of what it means to be parents living in a community, seeking and finding formulae to help their children be happy and independent. Damanhur, with more than forty years of history and thousands of followers all over the world, is a social and spiritual experience that has a lot of stories to share with the reader. “Damanhur Con Te” represents a way to collect them and tell them so that you can take away with you a small piece of the wisdom – or the foolishness, it depends on how you look at it – that has led us in this adventure.

Journey into the Temples of Humankind

The Temples of Humanity represent a kind of modern cathedral of secular spirituality, that is, based on ethical principles not related to a religious conception but to a path of intimate research. Imagine a long and patient work, underground, lasting years and years by silent and passionate women and men... and at the end of this work, long corridors opening onto wide halls, and everything richly decorated with mosaics, stained glass, paintings, statues... Welcome to the Temples of Humanity, where dreams and ideals come true. A journey where art, mysticism, and technology come together in an experience that touches our deepest part: the divinity that dwells in every human being.

Falco Tarassaco - The Dream, The Message

Positive thought, openness to others, the search for the deep meanings of life, pragmatism... these are the base elements of the spiritual message of Falco Tarassaco (Oberto Airaudi, 1950-2013). Eclectic, creative and profound, Falco was the founder of a school of thought that touches countless themes and has given life to the community experience of Damanhur in Italy and around the world. This book presents the fundamental elements of his spiritual guidance, from the discovery of the divine nature of the human being, to our relationship with the environment, and all the way to the development of a sense of wonder and the indispensable curiosity to understand the language of the universe. His dream and his message show his extraordinary capacity to bring together tradition and renewal-two pillars upon which to found our personal and collective future.

Damanhur

The Damanhur Federation, situated in Valchiusella, North-West Italy, is one of Europe’s longest-lasting spiritual-esoteric communities. Nevertheless, there has hitherto been nearly no scientific study of this group, with the exception of a handful of specialised-journal articles. This collection fills that gap by collating the various scholarly contributions which over the years have dealt with Damanhur, aiming to present the phenomenon to a public of specialists, students and people who are just curious in a volume focusing on the multidisciplinary nature of the community as a whole. We consider the various spheres making up the social, cultural, spiritual and organisational life of Damanhur through analysis and interpretation of its historical evolution and more recent changes which have affected the community since its founder’s death. The contributions combine field research with theoretical reflection, making use of both qualitative (discursive interviews and participant observation) and quantitative (questionnaires) methods.

This book asks how thinking, governing, performing, and producing the urban differently can assist in enabling the creation of alternative urban futures. It is a timely response to the ongoing crises and pressing challenges that inhabitants of cities, towns, and villages worldwide are faced with in the midst of what has been widely dubbed as ‘an urban age’. Starting from the premise that current urban development patterns are unsustainable in every sense of the word, the book explores how alternative patterns can be pursued by the wide variety of actors – from governments and international institutions to slum-dwellers and social movements – involved in the on-going production of our...

Spiritual and Visionary Communities provides a balanced introduction to a diverse range of communities worldwide. Communities studied include: Israeli kibbutzim, Mandarom, the Twelve Tribes, 'The Farm' and the Camphill movement. Written from a range of perspectives, this collection includes contributions from members of the groups, former members and academic observers, and as such will offer a unique and invaluable discussion of religious and spiritual communities in the U.S., Europe and beyond.
