The Padre was a Hooker

The Padre was a Hooker

The commandment "Thou shalt not kill," would seem to make it unlikely that a committed Christian would ever choose to pursue a career in the armed forces, where killing the enemy is, at the very least, a real possibility. Becoming an army chaplain might well be seen as an even more astonishing choice for someone seeking to serve God. And yet, the British armed forces have had chaplains since the beginning of warfare itself. Men and women from the traditional established churches who accompany the troops into the very face of the foe, seeking to care for the spiritual and moral welfare of the troops. Despite all the changes in the society and warfare, the decrease in church attendance and the weakening of the spiritual profile of our nation, military leaders still want a padre to accompany them into action. For 40 years, Stephen Blakey was one of these padres. With humour and insight, he shares the joys and the struggles of being the 'man of God' amongst what is sometime a pretty ungodly community.

Urological Care for the Transgender Patient

This book is designed to familiarize general urologists with the care of transgender and gender non-conforming individuals. Written by experts in reconstructive urology, it characterizes the process of gender affirmation and explains the surgical anatomy of both feminizing and masculinizing gender-affirming procedures including vaginoplasty, orchiectomy, hysterectomy, vaginectomy, phalloplasty, metoidioplasty, and prosthetics. Guiding the clinician in identification of immediate and long-term risks of gender-affirming surgery, it instructs clinicians in endocrinological care, options for fertility preservation, evaluation of malignancies after hormonal therapy, appropriate postsurgical follow-up, and the management of common complications involving urethral stricture, fistula, neo-vaginal stenosis, and incontinence. Urological Care for the Transgender Patient: A Comprehensive Guide is a necessary tool to prepare urological clinics and clinicians in serving the growing population of transgender patients presenting at various stages of their transformation.

The Southern Democrat was established by Forney G. Stephens at Blountsville in 1894. After fellow newspaperman Lawrence H. Mathews of the Blount County News-Dispatch died in 1896, Stephens moved the Democrat to Oneonta. When the News-Dispatch folded in 1903, the Democrat was the preeminent Blount County newspaper. Stephens died in 1939, but the Democrat continued to publish in Oneonta for almost 100 years. In 1989 the old Southern Democrat was renamed the Blount Countain. Microfilm for the old Southern Democrat was acquired from the State Archives in Montgomery and studied page by page. Every mention of births, marriages, deaths, obituaries and news important to the history and development of Blount County was reproduced here. This book is vital for any serious student of Blount County, Alabama genealogy and history.

This work is a detailed portrait of one of the most important, bustling and absurd industries that cinema has ever known: colorful essays and nine career-spanning interviews with Italian genre directors of the 1970s, such as Luigi Cozzi, Francesco Barilli, Lamberto Bava and more. The directors reflect on their successes, failures and experiences directing films in the Italian westerns, sci-fi and horror genres. Following the anecdotes, gossip and controversies of the industry, the essays employ critical analyses to fully unveil the Italian genre cinema, as well as its impact on films across the world.

House of Psychotic Women

Cinema is full of neurotic personalities, but few things are more transfixing than a woman losing her mind onscreen. Horror as a genre provides the most welcoming platform for these histrionics: crippling paranoia, desperate loneliness, masochistic death-wishes, dangerous obsessiveness, apocalyptic hysteria. Unlike her male counterpart - ‘the eccentric’ - the female neurotic lives a shamed existence, making these films those rare places where her destructive emotions get to play. HOUSE OF PSYCHOTIC WOMEN is an examination of these characters through a daringly personal autobiographical lens. Anecdotes and memories interweave with film history, criticism, trivia and confrontational imager...
