Coaching for the Future

Coaching has surged in popularity in recent years, gaining acceptance as a high-impact tool for executive development, and is finding broader and farther-reaching business applications. Increasingly, coaching is seen as the strategic solution for the key business issues - managing the knowledge embedded in the organisation, ensuring the continuous development of that knowledge and managing the knowledge worker. These are critical to competitive success, regardless of whether your organisation is a commercial, not-for-profit or government agency. Janice Caplan has drawn on a wealth of experience to deliver this definitive title, through the use of practical tools and techniques, fully supported by a wealth of case studies from leading organisations in every field, including call centres, television news reporting, the arts world, and a number of public and private sector organisations.

World Christianity

World Christianity: An Introduction provides an accessible introduction to the discipline, methodology, and field of world Christianity. In this book, Graham Joseph Hill engages with more than one hundred high-profile Majority World and First Nations Christian leaders to learn what they can teach the West about mission, leadership, hospitality, creation care, education, worship, and more. Hill challenges the Western church to move away from a Eurocentric and Americentric view of church and mission, and he calls for the church to engage with crucial paradigm shifts in world Christianity. The future of the global church—including the churches in the West—exists in these global exchanges. World Christianity is an indispensable guide for the church as it navigates the unique global experiences of the twenty-first century.

The Toothwrights' Tale

The Toothwrights' Tale tells the history of dentistry in the Royal Navy through the eyes of those who worked for the service, drawing on first-hand accounts. It begins at a time when technological advances were leading the world into a dangerous and uncertain era; nuclear proliferation, terrorism and interstate quarrels challenged policy makers and strategists. Born of such tensions was the Falklands Conflict in which no less than 14 RN dental officers were deployed in the ships of the Task Force and with the Royal Marines, and the book includes a number of gripping eyewitness accounts. The end of the Cold War gave momentary hope in 1989 for a more peaceful world but, within a couple of years, Operation Granby, the First Gulf War, introduced new military alliances and new military challenges.

The Happy Christian

A unique combination of biblical teaching, scientific research, and personal biography shows those who follow Jesus how to live joyful, purposeful lives. Hopelessness has invaded much of our culture, even reaching deep into the church. But while the world is awash in negativity, Christians have resources to live differently. In The Happy Christian, professor and pastor David Murray blends the best of modern science and psychology with the timeless truths of Scripture to create a solid, credible guide to positivity. The author of the acclaimed Christians Get Depressed Too, Murray exposes modern negativity’s insidious roots and presents ten perspective-changing ways to remain optimistic in a world that keeps trying to drag us down. The Happy Christian invites readers to shed negativity and become countercultural missionaries by demonstrating the positive power of the gospel in their lives.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Bible

Despite the trend in the sales of movie tickets and books, I have noticed there is a popular misconception concerning works such as the Chronicles. Many have the idea that the books are only for children and that when one grows up, such "childrens books" are no longer of value. Those with this mindset believe that as people grow to adulthood, they should move on to more important matters than the interests of childhood. Among other things, this means leaving imaginative "childrens literature" behind. Lewis believed the contemporary distinctions between adult and children's books, particularly the association of fantasy with children, is artificial. To think it proper only for children to read these kinds of books is a recent and false distinction, according to Lewis. He pointed out that most of the great fairy tales were not addressed to children specifically but to readers of all ages. Walter Hooper observed that Lewis "wrote fairy tales simply because he liked them himself and because he found them the best art form for what he had to say." Consequently, while most children thoroughly enjoy the Chronicles of Narnia, there is much in them to be savored and pondered by adults.

Brave by Faith

Learn from the book of Daniel how to live confidently for Christ today. What does it look like to live with joy in a society that does not like what Christians believe, say or do? It’s tempting to grow angry, keep our heads down, retreat or just give up altogether. But this isn’t the first time that God’s people have had to learn how to live in a pagan world that opposes God’s rule. In this realistic yet positive book, renowned Bible teacher Alistair Begg examines the first seven chapters of Daniel to show us how to live bravely, confidently and obediently in an increasingly secular society. Readers will see that God is powerful and God is sovereign, and even in the face of circumstances that appear to be prevailing against his people, we may trust him entirely. We can be as brave as Daniel if we have faith in Daniel’s God! "The message of Daniel is incredibly relevant for us in our generation. Not because it maps out a strategy for how to deal with our new lack of status ... or because Daniel was a great man and we need to follow his example. The reason is that it will help us to believe in Daniel’s God." Alistair Begg, author.

Seven Reasons to (Re)Consider Christianity

Examine the evidence for Christianity and why it is worth considering. Lots of people assume that Christianity is simply a nice story for kids or a niche hobby for weirdos—or worse, unattractively restrictive. In this book, Ben Shaw invites sceptical readers to think again. He outlines seven reasons why Christianity is worth considering—or reconsidering—not least because it offers some thought-provoking and rational answers to our deepest questions. This warm, honest book shows that the Christian message is both more credible and more wonderful than we might have otherwise thought, and calls readers to investigate the person of Jesus for themselves.

Travel

Travel is fun – to state the very obvious. But what if it could be enriching, life-enhancing and lots, lots more? What if that hunger for self-discovery, identity and fulfilment could take you in undreamt-of directions? ‘How will you spend your summer or gap year? This could be a good way to oil your thinking and your praying.’ Julia Cameron ‘I have been travelling internationally for 45 years – I just wish I’d been able to read this book a long time ago – it would certainly have made me travel more thoughtfully. It’s a travelogue; it’s theology; it’s cultural education; it’s a challenge to undertake mission . . . A fascinating read.’ Peter Maiden ‘Loved it! What a marvellous journey through Scripture (and the author’s life); it will challenge, encourage and widen your perspective, not only on travel but also on the amazing One who created everything. In a world where it’s easier than ever to work or study abroad, this book deserves to be widely read.’ Sinead Norman ‘Gives us excellent fresh ideas for honouring God with our travels, and helps to shape perspectives on mission, tourism and the meaningful welcoming of overseas students.’ Alan Tower
