Elbasani në arkivat britanike është qysh herët. Emri i tij përmendet i ndërlidhur me mjaft faktorë ballkanikë, shqiptarë dhe më gjerë. Është një emër që pason qytetërimin mes Rrugës Egnatia, është vetë ardhja e tillë e shenjtë që në udhëtimet e Shën Paul. Por emri i tij është një referencë qëndrese, identiteti dhe force. E hasim në mjaft korrespodenca, letra, shkëmbime diplomatike, gazeta e materiale të tjera arkivore deri në nënshkrimin 'sekrete'. Emri i tij fatmirësisht në pak raste është deformuar, ndërsa qëndron i pastër dhe mjaft konkret në gjetje. Me të lidhen mjaft emra të huaj, emra shqiptarë të fushave të ndryshme që në kohë të hershme e deri në ditët tona.
