Then and Now India's Relations with Indonesia

Netaji Institute for Asian Studies, an autonomous social science research institute sponsored by Government of West Bengal in its Higher Education Department, had initiated a project to publish in the form of Occasional Papers/Policy Briefs the outlines of India's relationship with East Asian countries in the context of India's earlier Look East and current Act East Policy. Two studies have already been published: the first in 2017 on India and Malaysia: Historical Hindsight and the Way Ahead by Suranjan Das (KW Publishers, 2017) and the second in 2018 on Indo-Vietnam Relations in the Emerging Global Order, jointly by Suranjan Das, Tridib Chakraborti and Subhadeep Bhattacharya. The present w...

Contiguity, Connectivity and Access

This volume examines themes like contemporary factors shaping the emergence of the Bay of Bengal region as a critical strategic theatre in Indian foreign policy; the inter-connectedness of the Indian and Pacific Oceans; the importance of oceans to security and commerce and India’s role within the broader region; the twenty-first century maritime Silk Road and Indian alternatives and the possibilities of reconnecting disconnected spaces through re-imagining a Bay of Bengal Community. In this connection the volume takes particular note of the emerging regional cooperative order for the promotion of peace and development in the Bay of Bengal region (BIMSTEC). The volume brings together historians, political analysts and political economists to emphasize the interconnectedness of the oceanic space through a detailed analysis of the Bay of Bengal as a space of strategic and economic significance, particularly for India, but also as a space for re-imagining a new regional community. Print edition not for sale in South Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Bhutan).

Optimization of multiphase permanent magnet synchronous machines on system level with reduced losses

The requirements of an electrical machine (EM) in Electric- (EV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) are high power density, a stator and rotor field with low harmonic content and best acoustic behavior. Six-phase permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) have significant benefits over conventional three-phase PMSMs, such as reduced current per inverter phase leg, less fundamental losses because of a better winding factor and increased fault tolerance. Despite their advantages, considering the same installation space, the torque per ampere increase of a six-phase PMSM is very marginal. Therefore, the main focus of this dissertation lies in increasing the power density of the multiphase ele...

This book analyses the nearly 30 years of India–ASEAN relations from a contemporary perspective, identifies the reasons for India’s vibrant and significant relation with ASEAN and examines the cultural, economic, political and strategic linkages between India and ASEAN. The book projects the future of India–ASEAN relations in the face of the changing Indo-Pacific geopolitics and explores potential policies which could enhance the connection between India and Southeast Asian countries. Arguing that ASEAN is of primary importance to India, the book suggests that any successful outing in the Indo-Pacific would need a strong partnership with India. The book demonstrates how external powers...

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 5th OpenSHMEM Workshop, held in Baltimore, MD, USA, in August 2018. The 14 full papers presented in this book were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this volume. The papers discuss a variety of ideas for extending the OpenSHMEM specification and discuss a variety of concepts, including interesting use of OpenSHMEM in HOOVER – a distributed, flexible, and scalable streaming graph processor and scaling OpenSHMEM to handle massively parallel processor arrays. The papers are organized in the following topical sections: OpenSHMEM library extensions and implementations; OpenSHMEM use and applications; and OpenSHMEM simulators, tools, and benchmarks.
