2003 European Society of Hypertension - European Society of Cardiology Guidelines for the Management of Arterial Hypertension

Hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and smoking present the number one risk factors for cardiovascular disease and death. Thus cardiologists play a key role in the care of hypertensive patients and as educators in the field. This special issue of Heart Drug features joint guidelines for the detection and treatment of hypertension, developed by the European Society of Hypertension and the European Society of Cardiology. Based on the 1999 International Society of Hypertension/World Health Organization Guidelines and endorsed by the International Society of Hypertension, these new guidelines integrate detection and treatment of other important risk factors, such as diabetes, and, for the first time, include the detection of target organ damage like left ventricular hypertrophy, arterial plaque, microalbuminuria or slightly elevated serum creatinine. The guidelines further highlight a number of drugs for the treatment of hypertension and recommend the use of combination treatment to reach blood pressure target. The goal of these clinically oriented guidelines is to provide the basis for improved hypertension care and control in Europe.

ADJUSTMENT PERSONALITY ASPECTS OF OLD PEOPLE: A BRIEF STUDY

  • Categories: Art

Concept of Adjustment:- Adjustment refers to changes in our ways of behaving to meet the changing demands of our environments. Obviously, Adjustment can be defined as a person’s interaction with his environment. Each person constantly strives to meet his needs and reach his goals. At the same time he is under pressure from the environment to behave in certain ways. Adjustment involves the reconciliation of personal and environmental demands. Interaction means mutual bearing or influence. Every person is influenced by these surroundings. And each has same effect on the particular environmental settings of which he is a part. The relative amount of influence varies from setting to setting and from time to time within a particular setting. Sometimes an individual is more influenced than influential, and sometimes it is the other way around. Environment refers to everything external to the person with which he is in some relation. In the study of adjustment, the unit of study is frequently a social group. For example, the individual is studied in relation to his family or to the people with whom he work.

This book provides a road map for the efficient and successful management of atrial fibrillation (AF) in the short stay unit. It describes the problem, defines the measures of successful treatment, elucidates interventions, and supplies the tools for achieving quality care. Organized in four parts, it covers the impact of AF on patient populations; the presentation and management of AF; the transition to the outpatient environment; and systems management. Topics include the economic consequences of AF; cardioversion and cardiac implantable electronic devices in AF management; education of the AF patient and discharge planning; and quality metrics in AF. The book also provides order sheets and process criteria with which institutions can successfully manage the AF patient in the short stay unit, thus optimizing patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and operational efficiencies. Short Stay Management of Atrial Fibrillation is a valuable resource for cardiologists, emergency medicine physicians, electrophysiologists, and other healthcare professionals involved in AF management.
