Correspondence, chiefly relating to William E. Green (1777-1865), the son of Dr. John Green (1736-1799), a lawyer. He had three wives and 11 children including Lucy Merriam Green (1810-1893), Lydia Plympton Green (1824-1869), and Andrew Haswell Green (1820-1903) who are represented in the collection as well as materials reflecting William E. Green's involvement with the Worcester Coal Company and the Blackstone Canal Company. The collection also features a large amount of material relating to the inheritance of the Green Hill estate following Andrew Haswell Green's death in 1903, by his five nieces and hephews who inherited the estate; and papers relating to the controversial 1960s proposal to construct part of I-290 over part of Green Hill Park. Includes correspondence, documents, newspaper articles, photographs, maps, and plans relating to the Green family and the Green Hill mansion in Worcester, Mass.
