The drawings are arranged as follows: - 1,879 drawings of mammals, reptiles, birds and fish which form volumes 1-15 of the original Hardwicke collection. These have been dis-bound and placed in 37 light blue solander boxes. Volumes XV1 to XXXIII are leather bound and comprise the following: Volume XVI, 169 drawings of birds; Volume XVII, 65 drawings of eggs and nests of birds; Volume XVIII & XIX, 366 drawings of reptiles; Volumes XX-XXIII, 813 drawings of fish; Volume XXIV, 233 drawings of Crustacea; Volumes XXV-XXX, 810 drawings of mollusca and radiate; Volumes XXXII-XXXIII, 66 miscellaneous drawings of animals, birds and reptiles. One volume of 57 drawings of Indian zoology and botany for the published work "Illustrations of Indian Zoology" is housed in the Rothschild Library in Tring. One Solander box of 22 drawings of of plants are housed in the Botany Library. This box also includes a portrait of General Thomas Hardwicke and an autograph letter to Sir Joseph Banks.

Hardwicke's letter Horsfiled when he was well enough to meet friends. In the letter, he asked Horsfield "on what day you may be able to favour me with an hour or two", and he would like a day's notice "not that there is any chance of my being out of the way, but that I would rather receive you in my sitting room", and he mentioned the purpose of his meeting "I have a great deal to ask you about the Museum at the India House and about the Zoological subjects I may be able to deposit there".
