Upspeeding technological evolution and globalisation characterise today’s and future lives of engineers. It is vital for all institutions involved in engineering education to keep pace and to anticipate future needs. The herein presented collection of papers results from the Workshop on Global Engineering Education (GEE’3) which took place at Aachen University of Technology, 18 – 20 October 2000. In this meeting more than 150 specialists from 25 countries discussed the topic “Educating the Engineer for the Century”. Which role to attribute to non-technical qualifications? How to integrate ethical aspects in education? Do we have to define international standards in education? What ...
The book offers a thorough introduction to machine vision. It is organized in two parts. The first part covers the image acquisition, which is the crucial component of most automated visual inspection systems. All important methods are described in great detail and are presented with a reasoned structure. The second part deals with the modeling and processing of image signals and pays particular regard to methods, which are relevant for automated visual inspection.
The 60th birthday of Prof. Luczak is the reason for this book. He will be honoured for his research work during the "GfA-confernece" in March 2009. This book is the correspondig "Festschrift" for him.
Production Engineering: The Competitive Edge describes the applications of advanced manufacturing technologies and their environmental impact. This book contains four chapters that explore particularly the implementation of high-performance integrated system in production engineering. The first chapter deals with the association between product design, market, and manufacturing requirements, followed by a review of production management and economic and human oriented operation of production systems. The second chapter tackles the principles of the so-called "Intelligent Technologies, the potential of material-adapted machines, and environmental responsibility of manufacturing technologies. ...
This work presents the systematics of production metrology starting from the inspection planning, across the recording of the inspected data up to the evaluation of this data. On the one hand, the reader will be supplied with basic knowledge for the understanding of the presented procedures and their practical use. On the other hand, he will also learn about the importance of production metrology for quality control in production processes. It is not only an indispensable reference book for the daily work of the engineer, but also a invaluable and easy to read text book for students. As a supplement for the studies, the book gives a fast overlook to the basics of production metrology and, at the same time, shows how this knowledge is put into practice.
Implementing co-operative production networks to secure and foster future competitiveness on the global market is a major strategic target for many small- and medium-sized enterprises. The text starts begins with a look at strategic management before moving onto operational product development and operations execution, and in doing so provides a detailed overview of the different key issues of setting up strategic production networks. Management concepts, the required information technology as well as best practices are introduced and discussed by leading researchers from Germany, Switzerland and China. The book is ideally suited for managers responsible for setting up global or regional co-operative production networks as well as researchers and students.
This is a very creative book with very original and creative work that is even better applicable than the previous book "Reconstructing competition and its processes". All the models required a lot of expertise and in-depth understanding of the subject. There are around 120 or more research papers from which a lot of data has been sorted up and a lot of creative ideas have been added, taking into view the Canadian perspective. It is a book worth reading for people performing R&D, people working in the top level or middle level hierarchy, and university students who are eager to know more.
In 1989 the time was hot to create a workshop series dedicated to the dicussion of the latest results in the automatic processing of fringe patterns. This idea was promoted by the insight that automatic and high precision phase measurement techniques will play a key role in all future industrial applications of optical metrology. However, such a workshop must take place in a dynamic environment. The- fore the main topics of the previous events were always adapted to the most interesting subjects of the new period. In 1993 new prin- ples of optical shape measurement, setup calibration, phase unwr- ping and nondestructive testing were the focus of discussion, while in 1997 new approaches in mu...
