Sons of Eve

Mama Lucy lives happily in Njoku, on the slopes of Mount Cameroon, with her sons Kauk and Negu. On a rainy day in the month of August, Kauk chases a fox down to a nearby agricultural estate. There he meets a gentleman who helps him to achieve great success as a trader in a nearby town. Kauk's business expands so fast that he brings Negu down to work for him. Negu's excitement quickly turns to resentment: he feels cheated, humiliated, and enslaved. A frightful dream finally compels Kauk to send his embittered brother back to the village. To take advantage of a new trend in the market town, Kauk goes back to the village too and takes over the family land. There is nothing the weakened and helpless Negu can do to stop his powerful brother. Kauk is later forced to move out of the village when Negu and his friends scheme against him. Negu's joy as owner of his brother's former farm is short-lived as he runs into disaster. At the end, even the affluent Kauk cannot stand.

An ex-service man of the famous British West African Frontier Force comes back to devote himself as a benevolent worker. James Walker Gray realises he needs a youngman to help facilitate his work. This is how he comes in contact with Ekema or Otto Von Wilhem, a much respected Mokpe man, for help. Otto finds a suitable young fellow for the Grays. At first, Ikome is apprehensive of his new white family, but when it dawns on him that he can use his position beside the white man to his own advantage, he changes his name to Frederick Lugard (Lord). The villages around the Ekona plantations have never suffered like this. Tribal chiefs are blackmailed, white men are manipulated and many reputable men are thrown to disgrace. Some, like the considerable Otto Von Wilhelm, are imprisoned. Lugard skillfully keeps himself in the good books of the white men until the day he pulls out his gun, and all hell breaks loose.

Grassfields Stories from Cameroon

Grassfields Stories from Cameroon is an anthology of short stories. It comprises animal trickster tales, bird survival tales, and human-interest stories. The compendium is a reflection of the mores, cultures, and value systems of the indigenous peoples of the Northwest Province of Cameroon. It is motivated by the author's keen interest in the preservation of Cameroonian oral traditions in written form. These stories deal with the day-to-day life of the sedentary and the globe-trotter. Each story is sufficient onto itself. The author has intentionally avoided chronology in the order of presentation of the stories. Whether you read the stories in the order in which they are presented or dart a...

Cameroon Anthology of Poetry

In this carefully thought-through anthology, Bole Butake brings Cameroonian poets of different generations, gender, regions, backgrounds and interests into conversation not only among themselves but more especially with poets from other parts of Africa and the world. Married But Available

Married But Available ventures into a theme about which people say as much as they withhold. It explores intersections between sex, money and power, challenging orthodoxies, revealing complexities and providing insights into the politics and economics of relationships. During six months of fieldwork in Mimboland, Lilly Loveless, a Muzungulander doctoral student in Social Geography, researches how sex shapes and is shaped by power and consumerism in Africa. The bulk of her research takes place on the outskirts of the University of Mimbo, an institution where nothing is what it seems. Through her astounding harvest of encounters, interviews, conversations and observations, the reader gets a captivating glimpse into the frailty and resilience of human beings and society. Lilly Loveless comes out of it all well and truly baptized. And so does the reader!
