Managing vagueness/fuzziness is starting to play an important role in Semantic Web research, with a large number of research efforts underway. Foundations of Fuzzy Logic and Semantic Web Languages provides a rigorous and succinct account of the mathematical methods and tools used for representing and reasoning with fuzzy information within Semantic
Artificial Intelligence is a field which continues to expand and develop rapidly, and so it is also one in which original ideas and fresh perspectives are of particular interest. The Starting AI Researcher Symposium (STAIRS) is an international meeting which supports Ph.D. students and those who have held a Ph.D. for less than one year, from all over the world, at the start of their career. The symposium offers doctoral students and young postdoctoral AI fellows the chance to experience delivering a presentation of their work in a supportive environment. This book presents papers from the Seventh STAIRS, a satellite event of the 21st European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI) held...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Web Engineering, ICWE 2018, held in Cáceres, Spain, in June 2018. The 18 full research papers and 17 short papers presented together with 2 practice papers, 6 demonstration papers, and 5 tutorials were carefully reviewed and selected from 103 submissions. The papers cover research areas such as Web application modeling and engineering; Web infrastructures and architectures; execution models; human computation and crowdsourcing applications; Web application composition and mashups; Social Web applications; Semantic Web applications; Web of Things applications; big data and data analytics; and security, privacy, and identity.
Databases have been designed to store large volumes of data and to provide efficient query interfaces. Semantic Web formats are geared towards capturing domain knowledge, interlinking annotations, and offering a high-level, machine-processable view of information. However, the gigantic amount of such useful information makes efficient management of it increasingly difficult, undermining the possibility of transforming it into useful knowledge. The research presented by De Virgilio, Giunchiglia and Tanca tries to bridge the two worlds in order to leverage the efficiency and scalability of database-oriented technologies to support an ontological high-level view of data and metadata. The contri...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 16th International Conference on Web Engineering, ICWE 2016, held in Lugano, Switzerland, in June 2016. The 19 full research papers, 13 short papers, 3 vision papers, 11 demonstrations, 5 posters, 6 PhD Symposium and 4 tutorials presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 120 submissions. The 16th edition of ICWE accepted contributions related to different research areas revolving around Web engineering, including: Web application modelling and engineering, Human computation and crowdsourcing, Web applications composition and mashups, SocialWeb applications, SemanticWeb, and, for the first time, also the Web of Things.
This book introduces a new approach to designing E-Librarian Services. With the help of this system, users will be able to retrieve multimedia resources from digital libraries more efficiently than they would by browsing through an index or by using a simple keyword search. E-Librarian Services combine recent advances in multimedia information retrieval with aspects of human-machine interfaces, such as the ability to ask questions in natural language; they simulate a human librarian by finding and delivering the most relevant documents that offer users potential answers to their queries. The premise is that more pertinent results can be retrieved if the search engine understands the meaning of the query; the returned results are therefore logical consequences of an inference rather than of keyword matches. Moreover, E-Librarian Services always provide users with a solution, even in situations where they are unable to offer a comprehensive answer.
Annotation The four volume set LNAI 3681, LNAI 3682, LNAI 3683, and LNAI 3684 constitute the refereed proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems, KES 2005, held in Melbourne, Australia in September 2005. The 716 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from nearly 1400 submissions. The papers present a wealth of original research results from the field of intelligent information processing in the broadest sense; topics covered in the first volume are intelligent design support systems, data engineering, knowledge engineering and ontologies, knowledge discovery and data mining, advanced network applic...
Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) is a research field concerned with deriving higher-level insights from data. The tasks performed in this field are knowledge intensive and can benefit from additional knowledge from various sources, so many approaches have been proposed that combine Semantic Web data with the data mining and knowledge discovery process. This book, Exploiting Semantic Web Knowledge Graphs in Data Mining, aims to show that Semantic Web knowledge graphs are useful for generating valuable data mining features that can be used in various data mining tasks. In Part I, Mining Semantic Web Knowledge Graphs, the author evaluates unsupervised feature generation st...
