This publication consist of case studies describing how socio-economic and demographic concerns are addressed in integrated coastal zone and community-based fisheries management in selected Caribbean countries - Belize, Dominica, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago and the Turks and Caicos Islands. The results of a comparative study in Malaysia and the Philippines are also reported, including the results of a regional workshop organized to review the findings of the case and comparative study.

This collection presents the unfolding of George Beckford's work from agricultural economics to political economy, to the social economy of "man space", to the cultural roots of Caribbean creativity and a vision of one independent, sovereign and self-reliant Caribbean nation. His purpose was to reveal the legacy of dispossession originating in the slave plantation experience of African people in the New World; to "free the mind" from the internalization of attitudes of inferiority and "Afro-Saxon" mimicry.

Inroads to Resilience
The GFDRR 2013 Annual Report showcases the Facility’s work toward its goal of helping over one billion people in 34 developing countries to better cope with and adapt to the effects of natural hazards and climate change. GFDRR provides assistance across five areas: risk identification; risk reduction; disaster preparedness; financial protection for countries and people; and resilient recovery when disaster does strike. In the last year over 80 countries received GFDRR assistance in the form of financial or advisory support.
