The volume presents current research in the field of Systematic Musicology at the Institute of Musicology, University of Hamburg. Bei der international führenden Forschung, wie etwa der weltweit größten 'Akustischen Kamera', welche am Institut entwickelt wurde, oder der Echtzeit-Hardware-Implementierung von physikalischer Modellierung wie auch bei wichtigen Beiträgen auf den Gebieten der Musikalischen Neurokognition und Musikalischen Psychologie, z.B. der Forensischen Musikpsychologie oder der Entwicklung einer Syllogistischen Musiktheorie, handelt es sich um Schlüsselthemen heutiger Musikwissenschaft.
Studies in Musical Acoustics and Psychoacoustics
This book comprises twelve articles which cover a range of topics from musical instrument acoustics to issues in psychoacoustics and sound perception as well as neuromusicology. In addition to experimental methods and data acquisition, modeling (such as FEM or wave field synthesis) and numerical simulation plays a central role in studies addressing sound production in musical instruments as well as interaction of radiated sound with the environment. Some of the studies have a focus on psychoacoustic aspects in regard to virtual pitch and timbre as well as apparent source width (for techniques such as stereo or ambisonics) in music production. Since musical acoustics imply subjects playing instruments or singing in order to produce sound according to musical structures, this area is also covered including a study that presents an artificial intelligent agent capable to interact with a real ('analog') player in musical genres such as traditional and free jazz.

What is a musical instrument? What are the musical instruments of the future? This anthology presents thirty papers selected from the fifteen year long history of the International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME). NIME is a leading music technology conference, and an important venue for researchers and artists to present and discuss their explorations of musical instruments and technologies. Exemplarischer Einblick in ein vernachlässigtes Feld der Universitätsgeschichte. Neben Forschung und Bildung ist Lehre zwar eine der drei elementaren Aufgaben jeder Universität, in der wissenschaftlichen Literatur wird sie aber nur nachrangig behandelt. In diesem Band untersucht Holger Fischer am Beispiel der Hamburger Universität die Entwicklung von Studium, Lehre und Studienreform im Verlauf ihres 100-jährigen Bestehens. Gestützt auf eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Quellen schildert der Autor die Entwicklung der Studienbedingungen, der Studienstrukturen, der Studienorganisation und der Studienreform. Detailliert stellt Fischer dar, wer die Träger und Verhinderer der vielen studienreformerischen Ideen und Aktivitäten waren. Seine Betrachtung erfolgt dabei aus der zentralen Perspektive der Gesamtuniversität; zugleich werden Beispiele aus der dezentralen Ebene einzelner Fächer angeführt. Berücksichtigt werden dabei auch überregionale Entwicklungen und Diskussionsprozesse. Holger Fischer zeigt beispielhaft auf, dass die Universität Hamburg gerade auf dem Gebiet der Studienreform häufig eine Vorreiterfunktion übernahm.
