Energy Harvesting and Storage
This book covers recent technologies developed for energy harvesting as well as energy storage applications. The book includes the fabrication of optoelectronic devices such as high-efficiency c-Si solar cells, carrier selective c-Si solar cells, quantum dot, and dye-sensitized solar cells, perovskite solar cells, Li-ion batteries, and supercapacitors. Aiming at beginners in the respective areas, the basic principles and mechanism of the optoelectronic phenomena behind every application are detailed in the book. The book offers schematics, tables, graphical representations, and illustrations to enable better understanding. Among the nine chapters, the first four chapters are dedicated to various types of high-efficiency solar cells and the remaining chapters discuss the methods for energy storage such as the fabrication of batteries and supercapacitors. Intermolecular Interactions in Electron Transfer Through Stretched Helical Peptides
The helical peptide Cys-Ala-Lys-(Glu-Ala-Ala-Ala-Lys)2-Ala-NH-(CH2)2-SH has been organized forming a self-assembled monolayer on gold (0.602 peptides per nm2), its conductance behavior at stretching conditions being studied using scanning tunnelling microscopy and current sensing atomic force microscopy. The helical conformation of the peptide has been found to play a fundamental role in the conductance. Moreover, variation of the current upon molecular stretching indicates that peptides can be significantly elongated before the conductance drops to zero, the critical elongation being 1.22 ± 0.47 nm. Effect of Electron-phonon Coupling on the Lifetimes of Plasmons in Graphene Nanoislands
[ANGLÈS] We show that the electron-phonon coupling in graphene planar nanostructures gives rise to an enrichment of the absorption spectra around the plasmonic resonances that these structures can support. Furthermore, we estimate the influence of coupling to phonons over the lifetime of these plasmons. In this line, we compute some values of the inelastic damping rate due to this electron-phonon coupling for graphene nanoislands. We conclude that the electron-phonon coupling channel is in general weaker that impurity scattering, and that gives rise to plasmon broadening in the meV range for large structures, whereas for small ones it has a fundamental role in the lifetime of molecular plasmons.
