Les contributions réunies dans cet ouvrage sont issues du colloque international éponyme qui s’est tenu à Paris en 2019. Elles traitent de la relation que le dessin, le design et le projet, entendus ici comme une triade, entretiennent avec la transformation des lieux. La beauté du seuil - Esthétique japonaise de la limite
" Établir une limite " est l'un des concepts majeurs de la pensée de l'espace-temps japonais, l'une des racines de son esthétique. Dans les sanctuaires et les maisons, cette notion du seuil, du kekkai, conduit l'agencement de la charpenterie et des ouvertures, tout en guidant la conception des jardins, des paysages, de la peinture, intimement liée à la littérature, aux rites ou à la poésie. En 1966, en pleine furie moderniste, un historien japonais, éminent spécialiste de la maison médiévale, Itō Teiji, publie une œuvre majeure consacrée au kekkai, qui puise ses exemples dans toute l'histoire de l'architecture japonaise. C'est ce livre, Kekkai no bi, que Philippe Bonnin et son équipe traduisent, rendant accessible pour la première fois cet ouvrage essentiel.
