Olivia
Olivia was born in Mexico where she lived with her family until 1927. She then immigrated to a Mexican boxcar camp in Aurora Illinois, where the Hispanic population was gradually rising. Olivia’s life is interwoven with stories of other people from Mexico who settled in Aurora, along with the stories of Mexican Americans who come later. Despite their growing community, they still must deal with racism and cross-cultural conflicts. Olivia begins a transformation after experiencing visions. With the aid of her Mexican religious resilience, spiritual shaman experience, and education, Olivia’s vision crystalizes as la Hispanidad: a community that embraces the Spanish language and its diverse Hispanic cultures. A vision of her former railroad city transforms into a revenue-generating Hispanic tourist attraction known as Aurora: The City of La Hispanidad. Follow Olivia as she experiences life and death, love and hate, but learns to never abandon a dream.
Education and Women in the Early Modern Hispanic World
Considering the presence and influence of educated women of letters in Spain and New Spain, this study looks at the life and work of early modern women who advocated by word or example for the education of women. The subjects of the book include not only such familiar figures as Sor Juana and Santa Teresa de Jesús, but also of less well known women of their time. The author uses primary documents, published works, artwork, and critical sources drawn from history, literature, theatre, philosophy, women's studies, education and science. Her analysis juxtaposes theories espoused by men and women of the period concerning the aptitude and appropriateness of educating women with the actual practices to be found in convents, schools, court, theaters and homes. What emerges is a fuller picture of women's learning in the early modern period.

St. Laurence & the Holy Grail
Many scholars are convinced that The Holy Chalice of Valencia is the Holy Grail, celebrated in medieval legends as it was venerated by monks in the secluded Monastery of San Juan de la Pena, built into a rocky outcropping of the Pyrenees and surrounded by mystery. The tradition of Aragon has always insisted that the flaming agate cup of the Holy Chalice was sent to Spain by Laurence, the glorious saint martyred on a gridiron during the Valerian persecution of 258 AD, whose praises have been sung in European literature since the fourth century. Now there is new evidence: A sixth-century manuscript written in Latin by St. Donato, an Augustinian monk who founded a monastery in the area of Valencia, provides never-before-published details about Laurence, born in Valencia but destined for Italy, where he became treasurer and deacon under Pope Sixtus II. It explicitly mentions the details surrounding the transfer of the Holy Cup of the Last Supper to Spain.
