The Crisis, founded by W.E.B. Du Bois as the official publication of the NAACP, is a journal of civil rights, history, politics, and culture and seeks to educate and challenge its readers about issues that continue to plague African Americans and other communities of color. For nearly 100 years, The Crisis has been the magazine of opinion and thought leaders, decision makers, peacemakers and justice seekers. It has chronicled, informed, educated, entertained and, in many instances, set the economic, political and social agenda for our nation and its multi-ethnic citizens.

Davie County
Davie County, carved out of Rowan County and named for a Revolutionary War hero in 1836, boasts a rich history. I am Velma Glee Church Martin and I have been writing bits and pieces of my life for over sixty years. I live in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky where the scenery changes from day to day. I am currently approaching 83 years old, and my husband and I have four children, five grandchildren, and two most precious great grandchildren. I have seen hard times, I have seen good times and the best years are the ones I am living now. God has blessed me in the later years of my life. This book, Pon My Word of Honor, will give you an intimate look across several generations of my family's life and several decades of my life. It explains the principles of slavery, organized baseball, and Veterans of the military. There are some stories of individuals that have made and are making an impact on this great nation. This book was written to inform readers about Black History, in Warren County, McMinnville, Tennessee located in middle Tennessee. The very first chapter was written to inspire all that read it. Chapter two is to explain principles of slavery. There are names, dates, and information that can help give individuals closure in the history. The photos in this book are most important, so that you can have a name, a place, what a person or people look like. It took 17 years to get information, history, stories, photos, and research, to make this a very interesting book. When one opens this book Through Wolf's Eyes, they will see what I see. Great book for historians, no matter what flavor you are!
