Encouraging people on the autism spectrum to foster positive emotions and character traits can dramatically improve their lives in every way, and help to strengthen their ability to cope with everyday challenges and setbacks. Drawing on the key concepts of positive psychology, this book looks in detail at five positive character traits - resilience, optimism, humor, kindness, and self-efficacy - and offer tried and tested strategies for bolstering each strength in individuals with ASD. The authors provide rich and varied lesson plans which contain a multitude of activities designed to build on the five areas identified, and which can be easily implemented at home, at school, or in the community. This complete "toolkit" provides parents, educators and other professionals with everything they need to know to use positive psychology strategies to support people of all ages and abilities on the autism spectrum.

Storytelling

This book serves as both a textbook and reference for faculty and students in LIS courses on storytelling and a professional guide for practicing librarians, particularly youth services librarians in public and school libraries. Storytelling: Art and Technique serves professors, students, and practitioners alike as a textbook, reference, and professional guide. It provides practical instruction and concrete examples of how to use the power of story to build literacy and presentation skills, as well as to create community in those same educational spaces. This text illustrates the value of storytelling, covers the history of storytelling in libraries, and offers valuable guidance for bringing stories to contemporary listeners, with detailed instructions on the selection, preparation, and presentation of stories. It also provides guidance around the planning and administration of a storytelling program. Topics include digital storytelling, open mics and slams, and the neuroscience of storytelling. An extensive and helpful section of resources for the storyteller is included in an expanded Part V of this edition.

Toddler Storytimes II

Research on early childhood brain development clearly shows the importance of storytime for toddlers. Toddler programs set the stage for the development of increased attention spans, superior language development, and a love of literature and libraries. The repetition of fingerplays, songs, and stories further enhance a child's cognitive development. Toddler Storytimes II is a source for books, games, fingerplays, puppet ideas, crafts, and other activities that make up a successful storytime. Each of the 25 themed programs presented contains approximately ten carefully chosen books, providing everything a librarian, teacher, or parent would need to plan storytimes. Also included are flannel board stories, poems, and songs with full-size reproducible patterns at the end of each section. A bibliography and discography are provided as well. Easy to use and practical, this book will inspire any reader to put on wonderful, creative programs children will love.

The task of this conference is to develop a set of policy recommendations to guide our discipline in the coming years as we strive to prepare psychologists to work with older people. It is rare for any discipline to have the opportunity to draw upon such immensely varied expertise as that gathered here this week to formalize such a statement. Seven major topics were addressed by about 100 participants in separate work groups of approximately 13-15 persons, made up of psychologists in general, geropsychologists, nonpsychology gerontologists, and consumers--including agency representatives, students, and elderly persons. The group topics included training; curriculum; continuing education, retraining, and in-service education; recruitment and retention; services and settings; psychosocial knowledge base; and biopsychological knowledge base. Over a 5-day period, the groups discussed their assigned topics with the goal of formulating recommendations that would address significant aspects of the topics and provide action plans by which the recommendations could be realized. These Are the Names

Between 1788 and 1850, more than 1500 Jewish men and women were either transported to Australia as convicts or arrived as free settlers. This important biographical dictionary presents the details - occasionally sketchy but sometimes extensive - of more than 1500 of these pioneers. Rabbi John Levi's painstaking research through the fragmentary and often contradictory colonial records has culminated in an invaluable reference work and resource. A wealth of information, including birth names, extra names, nicknames, aliases and maiden names, together with details of marriages, children and occupations, makes These are the Names a major contribution to an important but little-recognised aspect of Australia's settlement history. For the first time, the earliest generation of Jews to settle in Australia is named and remembered.

Filtering the Web to Feed Data Warehouses

Information is a key factor in business today, and data warehousing has become a major activity in the development and management of information systems to support the proper flow of information. Unfortunately, the majority of information systems are based on structured information stored in organizational databases, which means that the company is isolated from the business environment by concentrating on their internal data sources only. It is therefore vital that organizations take advantage of external business information, which can be retrieved from Internet services and mechanically organized within the existing information structures. Such a continuously extending integrated collecti...

Soziale Netzwerke in Unternehmen
