The Kashmiri society is the Muslim dominated society & the religion, which the vast majority follows, is Islam. Islam has no place for caste distinctions, but the Muslim population has remained divided into caste & Sub-caste from ancient times. It is mainly because the Kashmiri Muslims have retained some Pre-Islamic socio cultural features despite the conversion. So, we presume that some features of Hindi caste are prevalent in the Kashmiri society.
