Spatially Explicit Hyperparameter Optimization for Neural Networks
Neural networks as the commonly used machine learning algorithms, such as artificial neural networks (ANNs) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs), have been extensively used in the GIScience domain to explore the nonlinear and complex geographic phenomena. However, there are a few studies that investigate the parameter settings of neural networks in GIScience. Moreover, the model performance of neural networks often depends on the parameter setting for a given dataset. Meanwhile, adjusting the parameter configuration of neural networks will increase the overall running time. Therefore, an automated approach is necessary for addressing these limitations in current studies. This book proposes an automated spatially explicit hyperparameter optimization approach to identify optimal or near-optimal parameter settings for neural networks in the GIScience field. Also, the approach improves the computing performance at both model and computing levels. This book is written for researchers of the GIScience field as well as social science subjects.

Knowledge-Driven Harmonization of Sensor Observations: Exploiting Linked Open Data for IoT Data Streams
The rise of the Internet of Things leads to an unprecedented number of continuous sensor observations that are available as IoT data streams. Harmonization of such observations is a labor-intensive task due to heterogeneity in format, syntax, and semantics. We aim to reduce the effort for such harmonization tasks by employing a knowledge-driven approach. To this end, we pursue the idea of exploiting the large body of formalized public knowledge represented as statements in Linked Open Data.

Understanding of Atmospheric Systems with Efficient Numerical Methods for Observation and Prediction
Although the technology of observation and prediction of atmospheric systems draws upon many common fields, until now the interrelatedness and interdisciplinary nature of these research fields have scarcely been discussed in one volume containing fundamental theories, numerical methods, and operational application results. This is a book to provide in-depth explorations of the numerical methods developed to better understand atmospheric systems, which are introduced in eight chapters. Chapter 1 presents an efficient algorithm for tropical cyclone center determination by using satellite imagery. Chapter 2 aims to identify atmospheric systems with a new polarization remote sensing method. Chapters 3-8 place emphasis on enhancing the performance of numerical models in the prediction of atmospheric systems that should be valuable for researchers and forecasters.
