This is a collection of 70 stories from the popular radio series, Stories from Texas, that runs on the Texas Standard Network of 32 NPR stations across Texas. This is the second book in the series and includes short, memorable stories, that are extensions of the radio stories. Some are inspirational and some are humorous. The book covers the exploits of classic Texans like Sam Houston and Jim Bowie and modern icons such as Barbara Jordan, Mary Kay Ash, and T. Boone Pickens. There are funny folklore tales and urban legends here. Readers may have their phobias spike on them when they are taken up the tallest towers in Texas and into the deepest underwater caves. All the favorite critters are here, too, the coral snake, the armadillo, the horny toad, and vultures. The book even takes a look at Texas outside of Texas, such as how Texas, Australia, got its name and the incredible Texas connection to the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado. There's something here for life-long native Texans, and, for the newcomer, too. For the newcomer or the person abroad longing to be a Texan. this is an excellent primer on the culture of the Lone Star State.

Texas raconteur, professor and radio personality W.F. Strong explains Texas like no one else. Dozens of fascinating bits from Texas’ past and present are skillfully told by the Fulbright Scholar from Texas. For this book celebrating his home state, Strong has collected 75 of his NPR broadcasts. You’ll hear his inimitably Texan voice in your mind’s ear as he weaves stories on subjects ranging from how to “talk Texan” to Texas bards and troubadours; from tall Texas tales to Lone Star icons like Charles Goodnight, Tom Landry and Blue Bell ice cream; from legends and unsung heroes of the past to some heartfelt memories of his own.

So Great a Salvation

Though the global center of Christianity has been shifting south and east for decades, very few biblical and theological resources have dealt with the seismic changes afoot. The Majority World Theology series seeks to remedy that lack by gathering well-regarded Christian thinkers from around the world to discuss the significance of Christian teaching in their respective contexts. This textbook series introduces students and scholars to these enlightening developments from the Majority World. In So Great a Salvation nine scholars from the global church reflect deeply on soteriology in the Majority World.
