"The extension of the New Zealand Mission to what is now the Diocese of Waiapu is a story full of interest and one worthy of preservation in the annals of missionary enterprise. It is a fact to be deplored that the story has not been told by one or other of the early missionaries who had personal knowledgeof the events as they occurred or who had themselves heard of the events from the lips of others. It is now nearly ninety years since the first mission stations in the district were originallly opened and nearly a century since the first visit of a Christian missionary. In consequence whatever is written now must of necessity be gleaned from such sources of invormation as may be available, and that only aftermuch careful and laborious research ... In the present narrative there are few facts or dates mentioned which are not capable of verification and which have not been verified before being recorded here ..." -- Introduction p. 6 (written byWilliam John Simkin, Advent 1925)
