In the Música Latina series, students experience the rhythms, styles, and musical characteristics of Latin American music. Each piece begins with a short rhythm exercise that prepares students for the rhythm patterns featured in the piece. A brief description of each title helps spark the imagination of the performer. Book 2 is written for early intermediate level piano students. This solo by Wynn-Anne Rossi is written in 4/4 meter but has the feel of cut time. Ties held over the bar line give it a rumba vibe, and students will feel like dancing as they play the triads that are divided between the hands. Staccatos and accents add fun, and repeated melodic and rhythmic patterns make it easy to learn. There is an optional teacher duet accompaniment.

Oh dear, it seems that a skeleton may be trapped in your closet. But whoäó»s in real trouble here? It seems the closet that poor Mr. Skeleton is trapped in is quite messy and gross äóñ even for a monster! This Elementary solo is written in D minor, 4/4 with a pickup measure, providing the student with the opportunity to challenge themselves and be in charge of starting the performance. What follows is a conversation between Mr. Skeleton and the student that offers wide ranges in dynamics as well as frequently changing articulation that will provide a rewarding challenge for any student. The optional accompaniment offers to enhance the quirky and comical nature of this wonderful twist on the "monster in my closet" tale!
An air of mystery and a sense of urgency are created through the key (E minor), quick tempo in 4/4 meter, and swirling melodic patterns of this exciting duet. The secondo sets the stage with a four-measure introduction that features a left-hand bass line that rises and falls while the right-hand figures expand and contract. The primo melody borrows some of the melodic material from the secondo, building an air of suspense. Students who follow the dynamics carefully and keep the tempo moving steadily will create an exciting air of suspense throughout.
This energetic duet by Wynn-Anne Rossi is written in a captivating tango style. The changing meters between 9/8 and 2/4 combined with syncopation throughout are complemented by an alluring and lyrical melodic line. Each part is equal in difficulty, and students will enjoy trading the melody back and forth. Everyone will feel like dancing when they hear this exciting yet elegant duet!
Catherine Rollin has created a bold and lively pirate's dance in this fun-filled solo. The key of A minor sets the proper "pirate mood", and the quick 6/8 meter is perfect for a spirited dance. The running eighth-note melody shows off agile fingers, and the majestic chords in the middle section add an exciting contrast in this A-B-A form.

Four unique aspects of South Dakota are highlighted in this suite. The first movement, Sacred Black Hills, has an irregular 5/4 meter and pays tribute to the hills that were sacred to the Native Americans. In the second movement, Buffalo Bebop, the mighty buffalo is portrayed through the lumbering jazz bass line and playful right-hand melody. Jewel Cave, the third movement, uses colorful harmonies and sparkling runs to depict the gorgeous jewels lining the walls of this beautiful cave. The final movement, Badland Thunderstorm, features minor tonalities and a running bass line to warn of the dangerous thunderstorms in the infamous Badlands.
