Common Rail Fuel Injection Technology in Diesel Engines

A wide-ranging and practical handbook that offers comprehensive treatment of high-pressure common rail technology for students and professionals In this volume, Dr. Ouyang and his colleagues answer the need for a comprehensive examination of high-pressure common rail systems for electronic fuel injection technology, a crucial element in the optimization of diesel engine efficiency and emissions. The text begins with an overview of common rail systems today, including a look back at their progress since the 1970s and an examination of recent advances in the field. It then provides a thorough grounding in the design and assembly of common rail systems with an emphasis on key aspects of their d...

Methodologies of Multi-Omics Data Integration and Data Mining

This book features multi-omics big-data integration and data-mining techniques. In the omics age, paramount of multi-omics data from various sources is the new challenge we are facing, but it also provides clues for several biomedical or clinical applications. This book focuses on data integration and data mining methods for multi-omics research, which explains in detail and with supportive examples the “What”, “Why” and “How” of the topic. The contents are organized into eight chapters, out of which one is for the introduction, followed by four chapters dedicated for omics integration techniques focusing on several omics data resources and data-mining methods, and three chapters...

Computational Organometallic Chemistry

Computational methods have become an indispensible tool for elucidating the mechanism of organometallic reactions. This snapshot of state-of-the-art computational studies provides an overview of the vast field of computational organometallic chemistry. Authors from Asia, Europe and the US have been selected to contribute a chapter on their specialist areas. Topics addressed include: DFT studies on zirconium-mediated reactions, force field methods in organometallic chemistry, hydrogenation of π-systems, oxidative functionalization of unactivated C-H bonds and olefins, the osmylation reaction, and cobalt carbonyl clusters. The breadth and depth of the contributions demonstrate not only the crucial role that computational methods play in the study of a wide range of organometallic reactions, but also attest the robust health of the field, which continues to benefit from, as well as inspire novel experimental studies.

Located in the southeast of Xianfeng mainland, the mountains stretch for tens of thousands of miles like pale pythons, and the fog in the mountains is scattered all day long, which adds a lot of mysterious colors to Qinling Mountain. It has also been said that there are treasures in the mountains, but no one can really travel all over Qinling Mountain from beginning to end, and naturally no one gets any so-called treasures.

Emerging Enterobacteriaceae Infections: Antibiotic Resistance and Novel Treatment Options

Enterobacteriaceaea are spread worldwide and the diseases they cause may be fatal especially in immunocompromised patients. Moreover, the high prevalence of ESBL producing Salmonella and Shigella species diseases worldwide suggests major underlying safety issues. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 2015, approximately 220 million children contract diarrhoeal diseases every year and 96 000 die. As a result, the increase in single or multi drug-resistant foodborne bacterial pathogens is of major public health concern. Moreover, resistance to antimicrobials was found among Salmonella spp and Campylobacter spp from animals and food, and since fluoroquinolones became licensed for us...

Synthetic Biology and iGEM: Techniques, Development and Safety Concerns

This book focuses on biological engineering techniques, multi-omics big-data integration, and data-mining techniques, as well as cutting-edge researches in principles and applications of several synthetic biology applications. Synthetic biology is a new research area, while it has been rooted from the long-established area including biological engineering, metabolite engineering, and systems biology. This book will discuss the following aspects: (1) introduction to synthetic biology and iGEM, especially focusing on the systematic design, rational engineering, and sustainability of design in the omics ages; (2) synthetic biology–related multi-omics data integration and data mining technique...

For centuries, some of the world’s largest empires fought for sovereignty over the resources of Northeast Asia. This compelling analysis of the region’s environmental history examines the interplay of climate and competing imperial interests in a vibrant – and violent – cultural narrative. Families that settled this borderland reaped its riches while at the mercy of an unforgiving and hotly contested landscape. As China’s strength as a world leader continues to grow, this volume invites exploration of the indelible links between empire and environment – and shows how the geopolitical future of this global economic powerhouse is rooted in its past.

The story of Tzu Chi. Volume 2, Compassion in action : care for the suffering

With her concept of “Even fifty cents can save a life,” Dharma Master Cheng Yen began to challenge people’s conceptions of the impossible. A group of ordinary housewives were the first to believe in and follow her. The major organization that Tzu Chi is today began with this group of housewives. While lodging at Puming Temple, despite having nothing to her name, she was driven by one simple but resolute belief: “If I eat until I am eighty percent full, I can save the remaining twenty percent to help those in need.” With this hardworking and frugal mindset, Master Cheng Yen and her disciples overcame countless hardships to expand their charity work. She explained, “I have faith in my own selflessness and faith in the love of others. I established the Tzu Chi Merit Association not for my own sake, but ‘for Buddha’s teachings and for sentient beings.’ I believe that everyone has an abundance of love in their hearts. As long as there is someone to guide them, they can exercise their power of kindness.” Volume 2 (1966-1977): The beginnings of Tzu Chi’s charity mission.
