Metaphysics, Religion, and Heresy
This special issue of Labyrinth is the second part of a diptych dedicated to the eminent French philosopher François Laruelle in honor of his 80th Anniversary. The included essays deal with the Origins of Laruelle's Non-Philosophy in Ravaisson's Understanding of Metaphysics, the question of Religious Pluralism, the non-philosophical mystique and the rehabilitation of heresis, the analogies and differences of Laruelle's non philosophy to Iamblichus or Martin Heidegger. The contributors to this issue are Vincent Le, John M. Allison, Eleni Lorandou, Stanimir Panayotov, Ameen Mettawa, David Bremner, and Yvanka B. Raynova.
Between the Said and the Unsaid
This volume presents three interviews with Paul Ricoeur with the purpose to scrutinize the complex philosophical evolution of his thought. The main question which arises, therefore, and on which are centered the two volumes is how to «think together» the difference between the issues of Ricoeur's first works and those of his later ones, concerning the problems of the self and its relation to being, transcendence and language. Other discussed subjects are: Why philosophy today? If philosophy and religion are two autonomous fields, is there a possibility of elaborating a religious philosophy within the method of hermeneutic phenomenology? What is the primary object of hermeneutics? What are the potentialities of language and its bounds, respectively the limits of interpretation?
Non-Philosophy, Social Action, and Performance
This special issue of Labyrith is the first part of a diptych dedicated to the eminent French philosopher François Laruelle in honor of his 80th Anniversary. It aims to unveil the attracting force of Laruelle's non-philosophy for artists and scholars from different disciplines. The essays demonstrates in an emblematic way how a new "democratic order of thinking" permits non-philosophy to enclose domains that have long been considered as opposites - philosophy, science, religion and the arts - and to superpose these variables in a process of creative invention. The issue includes an original dialogue between François Laruelle and Anne Françoise Schmid, an inteview with Laruelle's translator into English Anthony Paul Smith conducted by Mark W. Westmoreland, and articles by Yvanka B. Raynova, Constance L. Mui, Julien S. The Impact of the Reformation and the Future of Christianity
In view of the current global crisis, in which war conflicts and waves of refugees reinforces the existing mistrust and negative attitudes towards the religions as causes of violence, the question arises: How do matters stand with Christianity in Europe? How could canonical tradition/law and reformation, resp. ecclesiastical dogmas and European values be reconciled today? Europe? Do the Christian Churches still need a kind of Reformation? The jubilee of the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's theses is a great opportunity to pursue these questions, as well as to reevaluate the spiritual and socio-political impact of the Reformation. The following issue of the Labyrinth-Journal offers not only Protestant, but also Catholic, Orthodox, non-Christian and even atheistic contributions to these topics. It also celebrates the 110th Anniversary of the elaboration of the Roerich Pact discussing its perspectives of a Reformation through Culture.
The Heretical Perspectives of Jan Patocka (1907-1977)
This special issue of the Journal Labyrinth is dedicated to the philosophy of Jan Patocka. It commemorates not only the 110th anniversary of his birth but also the 40th anniversary of his tragic death in 1977. In that year Patocka became one of the first spokespersons of the civil rights movement Charter 77 - an engagement marked by confrontation with the communist regime, which ultimately cost him his life. The issue's title invokes this double commemoration and alludes to his most famous and most heartily debated book, "Heretical Essays in the Philosophy of History." These essays, written towards the end of his life, in some sense can be seen as the culmination of his inquiries and long-term aspirations in the philosophy of history. Yet, it is by no means unequivocal why the author deemed these six essays to be "heretical."
Hans-Georg Gadamer (1900-2002) and the Impact of Hermeneutics
This issue of Labyrinth 2022 is the second part of the commemoration publication on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the death of Hans-Georg Gadamer. It explores the actuality of Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics and its possible applications in practice. In this context are debated some contemporary attempts to naturalize hermeneutics as well as the relevance of hermeneutics for social and political philosophy, feminist criticism and value research.
Freedom and Recognition in the Work of Simone de Beauvoir
This book offers a detailed analysis of Beauvoir's concepts of freedom and recognition concerning their impact on a philosophy of gender. It demonstrates that Beauvoir is much more than a simple equality feminist and that she posed questions that are at the center of contemporary feminist research. It shows that Beauvoir's existentialist approach must be taken seriously in that it provides a fundamental instrument for the interpretation of gender relations. On the basis of her work the conflicts are revealed that arise when modern emancipation theories and post-modern deconstructivism clash. By investigating these conflicting tendencies the thesis is elaborated that Beauvoirs's work can be seen as a pivot between modern and post-modern discourse.
Praxis, Virtues, and Values: The Legacies of Aristotle
The main objective of this volume is to offer some new readings of Aristotle's axiological ideas and practical philosophy in view of their historical impact and persisting importance. Thus, the volume is divided in two parts. The articles included in the first part discuss the origins and the foundations of Aristotelian value theory and practical philosophy. Reinterpreting the meaning of certain fundamental anthropological, ethical and political concepts of Aristotelian philosophy, such as orexis, pathe, phronesis, prohairesis, boulesis, bouleusis, a/o, the authors show their importance for the understanding of human being and human action. The articles in the second aim to show the historical impact of Aristotelian ethics and theory of action, and especially the diversity of their receptions. In particular, the authors show how problems in modern and contemporary ethical theories (modern virtue ethics, moral individualism, utilitarianism, recursive ethics etc.) can be resolved by using Aristotle's conceptual framework.

After the end of the era of "absolute idealism", philosophy is falling into a sort of "identity crisis," which requires the constant rethinking of its essence as a specific type of knowledge, and also of its subject and method.
