About 130 researchers from nearly 20 countries attended the meeting. Various topics on observations/theories on gamma-ray bursts and afterglows were delivered. Recent progress in the Swift era, along with many unsolved problems, was summarized, Special attention was paid to some key problems, such as the GRB classification/progenitors and the nature of prompt emission/afterglow. Many first-hand data and theoretical models were presented for the recent interesting "naked eye" burst GRB 080319B. Several upcoming missions, e.g. SVOM, JANUS, POLAR, POET, were highlighted.
A complete text on the physics of gamma-ray bursts, the most brilliant explosions since the Big Bang.
This book discusses in detail the great historical and social significance of the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It consists of seven chapters, each focusing on a specific issue related to AI, such as ethical principles, legal regulations, education, employment and security. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, it appeals to wide readership, ranging from experts and government officials to the general public.
Recording the proceedings of the IAU XXVI General Assembly, this volume of the IAU Highlights of Astronomy covers virtually all aspects of modern astrophysics as discussed by 2400 participants from 73 countries. Notably, the common aspects of astrophysical phenomena known to exist in widely differing interstellar environments is thoroughly examined, providing fertile cross correlation from one specialisation to another. This text highlights the importance of the triennial IAU General Assemblies in bringing together the work of observers and theoreticians in widely different fields, but working towards a common goal: understanding the physics of the Universe. Together with the Proceedings of the IAU Symposia 235-240, this volume examines all of the astrophysics presented at the General Assembly.
OCPA 2000 provided a forum for researchers from the various subfields of physics to broaden their knowledge horizons. It promoted friendship among ethnic Chinese physicists from all the continents and fostered a sense of belonging to a community with a strong tradition of scholarship and heritage. Ethnic Chinese physicists gathered to review past accomplishments and to consider making further contributions to the world of physics.
This Worldwide List of Alternative Theories and Critics (only avalailable in english language) includes scientists involved in scientific fields. The 2023 issue of this directory includes the scientists found in the Internet. The scientists of the directory are only those involved in physics (natural philosophy). The list includes 9700 names of scientists (doctors or diplome engineers for more than 70%). Their position is shortly presented together with their proposed alternative theory when applicable. There are nearly 3500 authors of such theories, all amazingly very different from one another. The main categories of theories are presented in an other book of Jean de Climont THE ALTERNATIVE THEORIES
The chemistry of microporous materials is among the most rapidly developing fields of chemical research. It is extended from the conventional zeolites which are mineral aluminosilicates with microporous host lattice structures. Both zeolites and microporous crystalline materials are molecular sieves which possess open frameworks in which guest species like water and amines or quaternary ammoniums (known as templates) can be accommodated. Upon the removal of guest species, they demonstrate adsorptive and catalytic properties owing to their surface activity as well as the selective character of the structural frameworks. There is a huge population of zeolite scientists in China who conduct intensive and interesting studies on these materials. The present review volume intends to draw an outline of the major research activities and achievement in the area of zeolite science in China.
The Proceedings of the 15th International Zeolite Conference contain 291 full papers, including the full papers of 5 plenary lecture, 12 keynote lectures, and 4 invited lectures at the R. M. Barrer Symposium. The topics of these full papers include synthesis, modifications, structures, characterization, adsorption, separation and diffusion, catalysis, host-guest chemistry and advanced materials, industrial applications, theory and modeling, mesostructured materials, MOF materials, and natural zeolites. The other 271 full papers were selected from the about 1000 contributions submitted to the 15th IZC.- Most recent research results in zeolite science- Full indexes- Wide coverage of zeolite science and technology
This book is a compilation of the 230 best student essays submitted in English composition classes at the Teachers College of Qingdao University in Qingdao, Shandong, P. R. China, during the spring semester of 2000. The stories were submitted to fulfill assignments given by American instructor, Mark F. Harris, for his students to write about their grandparents, parents, family life and some of their own childhood and school experiences as well as to contemplate the future. In doing research for the essays, a few of the students had the good fortune to interview their grandparents, while many more were able to question their parents. They wrote about times of hardship, sacrifice and deprivati...
