Bituminous Mixtures and Pavements VIII contains 114 papers as presented at the 8th International Conference ‘Bituminous Mixtures and Pavements’ (8th ICONFBMP, 12-14 June 2024, Thessaloniki, Greece). The contributions reflect the research and practical experience of academics and practicing engineers from thirty-four (34) different countries, and cover a wide range of topics: Session I: Bitumen, Modified binders, Aggregates, and Subgrade Session II: Bituminous mixtures (Design, Construction, Testing, Performance) Session III: Pavements (Design, Construction, Maintenance, Sustainability, Energy and Environmental consideration) Session IV: Pavement management and Geosynthetics Session V: Pa...
This book presents the work of the RILEM TC 279-WMR, whose purpose was to facilitate the use of waste, marginal and secondary materials for roads by investigating the performance of road materials containing waste through round robin tests and the development of standard procedures for their selection, preparation, and use. The structure of this book includes an introduction, five technical chapters, and a conclusion. The topics addressed are: the use of asphalt binder additives such as plastic and rubber; the combined use of aggregate and filler substitute in paving mixtures (construction demolition waste, rubber, and steel slags); the environmental assessment and the potential sources of pollutants originated from the use of this recycled materials.
This book presents a collection of focused review papers on the advances in topics in modern astronomy, astrophysics, cosmology and planetary science. The chapters are written by expert members of an EU-funded ERASMUS+ program of strategic partnership between several European institutes. The 13 reviews comprise the topics: Space debris, optical measurements Meteors, light from comets and asteroids Extrasolar enigmas: from disintegrating exoplanets to exo-asteroids Physical conditions and chemical abundances in photoionized nebulae from optical spectra Observational Constraints on the Common Envelope Phase A modern guide to quantitative spectroscopy of massive OB stars Explosion mechanisms of...
The attention of many developed countries has increasingly focused on the security and protection of critical infrastructure. The use of Unmanned Systems (USs) for this purpose has been growing rapidly in recent years, as advances in technology, increased versatility and smaller size, together with the reduced risks and costs associated with removing the need for a pilot or operator on board, have all made these systems more attractive. This book, Monitoring and Protection of Critical Infrastructure by Unmanned Systems, presents 15 papers delivered at the NATO Advanced Training Course (ATC) of the same name hosted in Chisinau, the Republic of Moldova, from 30 May to 5 June 2022. This event w...
