In response to the economic impact of the service sector, services science must be established as an academic discipline. This book includes detailed articles and short statements written by academics and experts on services research, service-oriented education, and service-related collaborations. All the contributions in this book stem from the presentations and statements given at the first German Services Science Conference.
During the last few years, computers have evolved from pure number crunching machines to "intelligent" problem solving tools. Increasing effort has been spent on the investigation of new approaches and the application of solutions to real world problems. In this way, exciting new techniques have evolved providing support for an increasing number of technical and economical aspects. Applications range from the design and development of ultra highly integrated circuits to totally new man-machine interfaces, from software engineering tools to fault diagnosis systems, from decision support to even the analysis of unemployment. Following a first joint workshop on Advanced Information Processing h...
With the evolution of digitized data, our society has become dependent on services to extract valuable information and enhance decision making by individuals, businesses, and government in all aspects of life. Therefore, emerging cloud-based infrastructures for storage have been widely thought of as the next generation solution for the reliance on data increases. Data Intensive Storage Services for Cloud Environments provides an overview of the current and potential approaches towards data storage services and its relationship to cloud environments. This reference source brings together research on storage technologies in cloud environments and various disciplines useful for both professionals and researchers.

As the Web grows and expands into ever more remote parts of the world, the availability of resources over the Internet increases exponentially. Making use of this widely prevalent tool, organizations and individuals can share and store knowledge like never before. Cloud Technology: Concepts, Methodologies, Tools, and Applications investigates the latest research in the ubiquitous Web, exploring the use of applications and software that make use of the Internets anytime, anywhere availability. By bringing together research and ideas from across the globe, this publication will be of use to computer engineers, software developers, and end users in business, education, medicine, and more.
Providers and consumers have to deal with variants of software services, which are alternative instances of a services design, implementation, deployment, or operation. This work develops the service feature modeling language to represent software service variants and a suite of methods to select variants for development or delivery. An evaluation describes the systems implemented to make use of service feature modeling and its application to two real-world use cases.
