This paper reports the preparation method of ErBa2Cu3O7- - Ag composites with Ag content of 5 wt% - 25 wt% silver. Resistance measurement was done using the four-point probe method in the temperature range of 79 K to 300 K. We found that the addition of silver decreases the normal state resistivity of the composite significantly with increasing Ag content. At 5% wt of silver, Tc increases from 88 K (pure sample) to 91 K. However Tczero remained approximately constant at 91 K for further addition of 10, 15 and 20 wt. % of silver. At 25 wt. % silver content, Tc value drops drastically to 68.5 K. The paper reports on the preparation methods of the composite material and the results of the resistance measurement. These results offer the possibility of using this composite material for the manufacture of superconducting wires. [Authors' abstract].
However, further comparison revealed that the slow cooled samples have improved superconductivity indicating higher 2223 phase formation compared to the air quenched samples for 0.08
In this paper we report ultrasonic velocity measurements on bulk ceramic PrBa2Cu3O7-8 and ErBa2Cu3O7-8 (Tczero = 92 K) orthorhombic samples at 10 MHz in the temperature range of 80 K to 300 K and 80 K to 240 K for longitudinal and shear modes respectively. We found longitudinal and shear velocity changes of around 4% and 3% respectively during warming and cooling of the samples. In addition, longitudinal velocity in both samples showed existence of a hysteresis in the temperature range of 190 K to 230 K. Shear measurements showed oxistence of an anomaly (pronounced slope change) at around 210 K to 220 K which may be related to the longitudinal hysteresis of both samples. Existence of the 200 K - 240 K hysteresis and related anomalies was explained in terms of possible oxygen ordering related to Ortho-I and Ortho-II phase transition in the materials.
