Pemilu 2019 untuk pertama kalinya diselenggarakan dengan skema serentak. Dalam skema ini, pemilihan anggota legislatif dan pemilihan presiden dan wakil presiden dilaksanakan dalam waktu bersamaan. Skema ini berbeda dengan skema pemilu-pemilu sebelumnya di era reformasi, yakni pemilihan legislatif pelaksanaannya mendahului pelaksanaan pemilu presiden dan wakil presiden. Dengan skema keserentakan, yang dicermati adalah bagaimana partai politik menyiapkan calon atau kandidatnya baik untuk pemilu legislatif maupun pemilu presiden. Bagi partai politik, untuk mendapatkan calon-calon yang akan diajukan dalam surat suara pemilu dilakukan melalui proses seleksi. Selain kandidasi, partai politik juga membangun koalisi untuk mengajukan calonnya dalam pemilihan presiden. Buku ini mengkaji mengenai kandidasi dan koalisi partai politik pada Pemilu Serentak 2019.
