The Emergent Manager examines the process of becoming a manager within organizations and considers how people relate the ways in which they 'manage' their lives to their development as managers in the workplace. At the heart of the book is the idea of the individual engaged in a continual process of 'becoming'. Focusing on the reported experiences of managers, the book is richly illustrated throughout with examples drawn from a variety of workplaces, including the civil service, academia, the retail industry, construction and engineering, banking and the prison service. Tony Watson and Pauline Harris together provide a new understanding of the nature of the management role and the ways in which people make sense of their lives as managers. Accessible and innovative, this book will be of interest to students and academics in management and organization studies as well as practising managers.

Essay aus dem Jahr 1999 im Fachbereich Deutsch - Deutsch als Fremdsprache / Zweitsprache, Note: keine, Gazi Üniversitesi (Fachbereich Germanistik), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In this study the novelist Akif Pirinçci’s novel entitled “Der Rumpf” (Body) has been analysed and the problem of “being handicapped” which is the major motif of the novel has been scrutinised. Almost all the figures in the novel are either physically or mentally handicapped. The novelist has fore grounded the symbolical meaning in the motif of being handicapped and has made the delicate duality between the good and the bad as the basis and as a result has wanted the victory of the good.

The German New Right

Contemporary Germany is a modern industrial democracy admired throughout the world. Many Germans believe that they live in the 'best Germany' that has ever existed. Yet there are dissenting voices: individuals and groups that reject cosmopolitanism, globalization and multiculturalism, and yearn for the more homogeneous country of earlier times. They are part of a global movement, often characterized as populist, that values tradition over innovation or constant change. In Germany, such people are routinely portrayed as reactionary or even neo- fascist. The present study seeks to provide a portrait of these individuals and their organizations. Very little has been written in English about the...

Germany in Transit

How does migration change a nation? Germany in Transit is the first sourcebook to illuminate the country's transition into a multiethnic society—from the arrival of the first guest workers in the mid-1950s to the most recent reforms in immigration and citizenship law. The book charts the highly contentious debates about migrant labor, human rights, multiculturalism, and globalization that have unfolded in Germany over the past fifty years—debates that resonate far beyond national borders. This cultural history in documents offers a rich archive for the comparative study of modern Germany against the backdrop of European integration, transnational migration, and the fall of the Berlin Wall. Divided into eleven thematic chapters, Germany in Transit includes 200 original texts in English translation, as well as a historical introduction, chronology, glossary, bibliography, and filmography.
