Ionizing Radiation Detectors for Medical Imaging contains tentechnical chapters, half of which are devoted to radiology and theother half to nuclear medicine. The last chapter describes thedetectors for radiotherapy and portal imaging. Each chapter addressescompletely a specific application. The emphasis is always on detectorfundamentals and detector properties. Where necessary, software andspecific applications are described in depth. This book is intended for graduate and undergraduate students inphysics and engineering who want to study medical imaging. Inaddition, scientists who are working in a specific sub-field ofmedical imaging can acquire from the book an up-to-date description ofthe state of the art in related sub-fields, within the scope ofionizing radiation detectors. Other scientists, as well as physicians, can use the book as a reference for medical imaging
Small-Animal SPECT Imaging is an edited work derived from the first workshop on Small-Animal SPECT Imaging held January 14-16, 2004 at the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, USA. The overall goal of the meeting and therefore this volume is to promote information exchange and collaboration between the research groups developing systems for small-animal applications. Topics include the biomedical significance of small-animal imaging, an overview of detector technologies including scintillation cameras and semi-conductor arrays, imager design and data acquisition systems, animal handling and anesthesia issues, objective assessment of image quality, and system modeling and reconstruction algorithms.
This book offers a diachronical and inter-/transmedia approach to the relationship of media and fear in a variety of geographical and cultural settings. This allows for an in-depth understanding of the media’s role in pandemics, wars and other crises, as well as in political intimidation. The book assembles chapters from a variety of authors, focusing on the relation between media and fear in the West, the Middle East, the Arab World and China. Besides its geographical and cultural diversity, the volume also takes a long-term perspective, bringing together cases from transforming media environments which span over a century. The book establishes a strong and historically persistent nexus between media and fear, which finds ever-new forms with new media but always follows similar logics.
The general theme of MEDICON 2013 is "Research and Development of Technology for Sustainable Healthcare". This decade is being characterized by the appearance and use of emergent technologies under development. This situation has produced a tremendous impact on Medicine and Biology from which it is expected an unparalleled evolution in these disciplines towards novel concept and practices. The consequence will be a significant improvement in health care and well-fare, i.e. the shift from a reactive medicine to a preventive medicine. This shift implies that the citizen will play an important role in the healthcare delivery process, what requires a comprehensive and personalized assistance. In...
This book is a comprehensive study of Latin America during the First World War from a transnational perspective.
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 10th International Joint Conference on Biomedical Engineering Systems and Technologies, BIOSTEC 2017, held in Porto, Portugal, in February 2017. The 20 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 297 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on biomedical electronics and devices; bioimaging; bioinformatics models, methods and algorithms; bio-inspired systems and signal processing; and health informatics.
This book provides a thorough overview of cutting-edge research on electronics applications relevant to industry, the environment and society at large. A wide spectrum of application domains are covered, from automotive to space and from health to security and special attention is devoted to the use of embedded devices and sensors for imaging, communication and control. The book is based on the 2013 APPLEPIES Conference, held in Rome, which brought together researchers and stakeholders to consider the most significant current trends in the field of applied electronics and to debate visions for the future. Areas covered by the conference included information communication technology, biotechnology and biomedical imaging, space, secure, clean and efficient energy, the environment, smart, green and integrated transport. As electronics technology continues to develop apace, constantly meeting previously unthinkable targets, further attention needs to be directed toward the electronics applications and the development of systems that facilitate human activities. This book, written by industrial and academic professionals, will hopefully contribute in this endeavor.
