The theme of this book is fairly standard: an historical discussion of the bipolarity that has characterized the history of the Church, a communal spirit in the early centuries and an individualistic spirit in the more recent centuries. The author is much taken with the necessity of a personalist spirit, founded on freedom and love, modeled upon Christ Incarnate. This personalist spirit is meant to avoid the excesses of individualism and to recapture the riches of the communal spirit in the reality of the Mystical Body of Christ.
