Manuscript letter from Ambrose Spencer to Samuel Jones denying Jones' request for a writ of certiorari to the mayor, aldermen and commonalty of New York regarding the common sewer in Canal Street. This was not an official judicial opinion, and despite Spencer's feelings the writ of certiorari was issued in the August term of 1820.

Mr. B. said he should not undertake to pronounce an eulogy upon the distinguished subject of these resolutions, believing that it would be found in the history of the state, with whose public affairs he had been intimately connected for a long period of his life.
