In New Scandinavian design, design journalist Katherine E. Nelson pairs with designer Raul Cabra to produce a comprehensive survey of cutting-edge Scandinavian design, delving deep and taking a critical look at the exciting contemporary work from the northern countries. Central to the endeavour was the question posed to hundreds of designers, curators, policy makers and entrepreneurs: is there still such a thing as Scandinavian design? Featuring examples of contemporary furniture, housewares, textiles, consumer electronics and lighting.

Design and Agency

  • Categories: Art

Design and Agency brings together leading international design scholars and practitioners to address the concept of agency in relation to objects, organisations and people. The authors set out to expand the scope of design history and practice, avoiding the heroic narratives of a typical modernist approach. They consider both how the agents of design construct and express their identities and subjectivities through practice, while also investigating the distinctive contribution of design in the construction of individual identity and subjectivity. Individual chapters explore notions of agency in a range of design disciplines and historical periods, including the agency of women in effecting ...

How to Win the Nobel Prize

In 1989 Michael Bishop and Harold Varmus were awarded the Nobel Prize for their discovery that normal genes under certain conditions can cause cancer. In this book, Bishop tells us how he and Varmus made their momentous discovery. More than a lively account of the making of a brilliant scientist, How to Win the Nobel Prize is also a broader narrative combining two major and intertwined strands of medical history: the long and ongoing struggles to control infectious diseases and to find and attack the causes of cancer. Alongside his own story, that of a youthful humanist evolving into an ambivalent medical student, an accidental microbiologist, and finally a world-class researcher, Bishop giv...

How do designs evolve? How do designers and producers work? Nationalmuseum's restaurant in Stockholm is a new public living room and an explorative, tactile exhibition of contemporary design. The interior is the result of an artistic collaboration titled 'NM&' led by Matti Klenell, Carina Seth Andersson, Gabriella Gustafson, Mattias StOhlbom, and Stina LOfgren, who have worked with around thirty designers and twenty producers to create furniture, light fittings, and objects for the table. This richly illustrated book is the story of how it all came about.

I am appealing to my Jewish brothers and sisters to help me right some wrongs before we all pay for them. History records how Jews have been persecuted but never really say why. I am telling you why. It is because of the greed of the Jewish power brokers and the discrimination by the rest of us. Here I track a crime family to America and reveal how they took over our money (via the Federal reserve and world banks). They control the media. They control the White House, Congress, and even your life. They assassinated both JFK and RFK, and will kill anyone else who stands up to them. In Oregon, they murdered James Ross and Michael Francke to silence them. That makes me a dead man. I also address Global warming, cosmology, treason, and a lot of other things you thought you knew. This book is enlightening, but it is also shocking. If we sit back and do nothing, we will all pay. History has proven that. Please help.
