The contributions to this volume investigate relations of cohesion and coherence as well as instantiations of discourse phenomena and their interaction with information structure in multilingual contexts. Some contributions concentrate on procedures to analyze cohesion and coherence from a corpus-linguistic perspective. Others have a particular focus on textual cohesion in parallel corpora that include both originals and translated texts. Additionally, the papers in the volume discuss the nature of cohesion and coherence with implications for human and machine translation. The contributors are experts on discourse phenomena and textuality who address these issues from an empirical perspectiv...
If only AVM Derek Fullerton had made a different decision thirty odd years ago, if only he had given the assistance and the resources that he could have back then, his whole world would not now be on the verge of collapsing on top of him. The Bosnian war left scars on many, but Nick, a peacekeeping soldier, held on to the one event that changed him forever. For the next thirty years he and the MP who tried to help him in his darkest moment, would be committed to finding the man who so horribly stole his future and bring him to justice, but they had no idea of the recoil that would follow their success. Now fate had brought them all uncomfortably back together, the men who survived war, on both sides, the secrets they kept, and now their children and one grandchild were in fear for their lives, they would all have to work together to save everyone that mattered to them.

This introduction to the study of the Russian novel demonstrates how the form evolved from imitative beginnings to the point in the 1860s when it reached maturity and established itself as part of the European tradition. Professor Freeborn considers selected novels by Pushkin, Lermontov, Gogol, Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy. Extended introductory sections to the studies of Dostoyevsk and Tolstoy deal with their earlier works. A final chapter summarises the principal points of contrast between Crime and Punishment and War and Peace, and argues that in certain specific ways, they represent the peaks in the evolution of the form of the Russian novel. Quotations are translated, but key passages are also given in the original. Professor Freeborn treats the novel as a literary form and avoids the overworked formulae on which much historical writing on Russian literature has been based. He is concerned with the literary development of a great form.
