Gelaran Almanak Seni Rupa Jogja 1999-2009
Gelaran Almanak Senirupa Jogja 1999-2009 ini bukan sekadar ”Almanak”, melainkan ”Almanak +” lantaran menggabungkan banyak sekali model: Ensiklopedia, Kamus, Kronik, Who’s Who, Katalog, maupun Yellow Pages (Nama | Alamat). Ini adalah semacam ”buku pintar” seni rupa yang bisa dipegang oleh seluruh komponen yang berkepentingan dengan dunia seni rupa, terutama di Yogyakarta selama sepuluh tahun terakhir. Sebuah kota yang secara statistik, memiliki puluhan ribu seniman dengan aktivitas seni yang kaya. Karena itu kota ini kerap disebut sebagai produsen seni yang paling fantastik di Asia atau ”Makkah”nya seni rupa Asia. Buku ini diikat oleh empat kategori besar: nama (seniman), peristiwa (kronik), ruang (tempat/kawasan), dan komunitas (organisasi). Dari keempat ikatan itu lalu diturunkan menjadi tema-tema spesifik yang dirujuk dari perkembangan-perkembangan termutakhir dunia seni rupa selama sepuluh tahun sebagaimana yang terpetakan dalam daftar isi buku ini.

A complete survey of Indonesian contemporary art. Indonesian Eye presents the most exciting works by emerging Indonesian artists in the most exhaustive way and comprehensively discusses their distinguishing characteristics differentiated from other contemporary art in Asia and the Western world. As an illustrated study, the book features seventy five up and coming artists and five essays to explain vibrant and dynamic art scene in Indonesia as an undiscovered jewel of Asian contemporary arts. Four pages will be given to each artist to allow the audience to experience more diverse spectrum of young artists' works never introduced before outside Indonesia. Each artist's section will have a brief descriptive text on the artist and his/her work and detailed captions.

Jia Aili
The work of the Chinese artist Jia Aili (*1979 in Liaoning) possesses an unparalleled intensity. Whether reflecting on China's inauguration of the atomic bomb or the first satellites in 1970, the theme of Aili's oil paintings is the dramatic transformation of Chinese society over the past 50 years. The works simultaneously also convey a feeling of wonderment and fascination for the achievements and new possibilities that technological progress offers. It is a feeling Aili has particularly developed in his apocalyptic-seeming desert landscapes, which only allow space for isolated masked figures, usually astronauts. The monograph documents Aili's exhibitions over the past 10 years and shows the young Chinese artist's disparate sources of inspiration with the aid of discussions of individual works.
