North Brevard County
The early pioneer settlement of LaGrange Community in Brevard County in 1858 pre-dated the missile launches on North Merritt Island by just one hundred years. During that span of time, the northern part of Brevard County underwent significant growth and development-homes were built, land farmed, businesses established, and churches built. The citrus industry provided North Brevard with a productive agricultural economy that remained strong until the advent of the space age. With the federal government's purchase of the land north of the port of Canaveral in the 1950s, the Cape Canaveral Missile Test Center was established. Later, when more land was needed, the Kennedy Space Center was built on North Merritt Island. Many North Brevard towns, communities, and homesteads disappeared when the governmental acquisition of land forced residents to relocate, but it was this new era of technology that helped shift North Brevard from the farm age to the space age.

Plainville
Originally known as the Great Plain, Plainville was the last town to separate from Farmington. In 1830, a post office was established in the new community and the name was changed. The town officially incorporated in 1869. The early economy consisted of farmers, millers, tin workers, tanners, chair makers, and blacksmiths. In 1828, the Farmington Canal opened and Plainvilles population blossomed. It soon became a commercial center and new industries and manufacturing developed. This book documents Plainvilles early-17th-century settlers, such as the Root, Newell, Hooker, Lewis, and Hamlin families, and follows the towns fascinating evolution to the present. Cocoa and Rockledge
The history of Cocoa and its bedroom community, Rockledge, falls into two time frames: the first is exploration and settlement; the second began in the 1950s when the Space Age began and drastic change ensued. It takes a mighty stretch of the imagination to leap from the founding and settlement of St. Augustine--a few miles north and a few centuries prior--to the incorporation of Cocoa and Rockledge.
