The Aro Confederacy
This work reexamines the enduring Aro question in relation to the complex process of state formation, chronological timelines, and historiography. While correlating the evolution of the Aro confederacy to state formation models in Africa, this study interrogates the Hamitic hypothesis and autochthonous assumptions. Also, this study has uniquely and creatively established a relatively firm chronology for the Aro using genealogies collected by the British.
